Well considering that SSE4 isn't being used except on one benchmark I would say its outstanding improvement . Right now its right about a 10% +- depending on the app. Gaming well see a 20% + improvement in most cases. SSE4 on apps that use it will see upto 40%+ improvements depending on the apps again.

Now Most remember that the test was using RBdimms at DDR2 667. The Shulltrail dual socket M/B will use DDR3 with the cpu fsb set to 400 at default which = DDR3 1600 .

So exspect to see at least another 5-10% increase in performance with the same apps tested here on a proper Desktop setup. Also NV sli will be a standard feature on skulltrail dual socket M/B . It will also have dual independent FSB like the one shown but with a differance a new improved snoopy filter.

So if you look at the big picture When Penryn actually is for sale to us . Skulltrail will be ready and waiting and you will probabally see 20%+ improvement in Apps. straight across the board at the same clock to clock compared to Conroe.


V8 used a server M/B SKULLTRAIL is for the desktop that V8 demo is nothing more than a preview of whats coming . Its going to be a lot better than the Demo. We already have DDR3 1600 and DDR3 2000 is on its way by the time penryn is released we will have lower latency DDR3 2000 and the improvement will see will amaze all.

Doesn't need to be, if it can clock decently higher. As long as it is an improvement.

Well, Penryn isn't really an overhaul of the core due technology. It's more of a die shrink plus a few improvement like SSE4, larger cache, faster bus speed..etc. So I am not surprised that it is not that much faster clock for clock. As long as Intel can sell it cheaper (smaller die, more chip per wafer), use less electricity, runs at faster clock speed, and produce less heat. It will be a success in my mind.

It's 1 benchmark, and the intel fanboys are all over it. As for nemesis 1, all speculation, guesswork, if-ifs. Until I see 2 of them running under near identical circumstances, I'll decide which one to buy.

Their are more benches than these but since you start flaming . Find them yourself If that AMD system your on can bare to see the numbers. But It's very impressive results on 4 benchmarks. 8-40% increase at clock for clock. Gaming was 20%+

I can't help that K10 isn't even = to Conroe clock for Clock . But you are shooting off your mouth about 1 benchmark and there are more . Penryn will be all that ! I can't wait to see the numbers in july- aug when penryn samples are all over @ XS.

Get ready to be owned AMDers(even more ) . Penryn On X38 with DDR3 2000@ 4 ghz will blow people away .

i was impressed with the numbers...i myself have no bias one way or the other with amd or intel i just go for what is kick @ss at the time...i thought that was very nice score and wow i acutally cant wait to see how these things overclock...i think the best looking feature i see with these new processors is the sse 4...that makes a huge difference...i honestly with amd wasnt so hush hush about what they are doing...to me it really doesnt make much sence..oh well we will just have to wait and see

im actually going to get me a v8 system i like the sound of that

Yorkfield = Desktop Penryn Quad Core (MCM)

Wolfdale = Desktop Penryn Dual Core

Harpertown DP = Server Penryn Quad Core (MCM, 2-way system)

Wolfdale DP = Server Penryn Dual Core (2-way system)

And I'm not really biased to wards either, I have a AMD system running next to a intel system. At the time of buying they were the fastest my budget could afford. I at least didn't buy them of 1 benchmark and some intel or amd fanboy thread praising it into heaven

For real. I think it's even worse with (relatively) new names..

On topic: I wonder if they actually ran the bench with 4 different CPUs, or just added a V8 number to the graph that they had in the past. Some numbers don't add up but I can't say much since I don't exactly know what other components are being used. And the V8 is a dual-socket system with dual FSB. (just like 4x4) I don't think octa-core is feasible with Core 2 architecture and 45nm process. Penryn is native dual-core and MCM quad-core.

Regardless, the V8 is a beast, for sure.

From what I can gather, all your user name proves is that you have an inherit bias against the FSB architecture, nothing more.
