WOW: Priest fire resist gear?

I need to buff up my fire resistences. Joined a new guild that is heavy into MC and BWL (previous guild was just starting on MC). I'm having a hard time figuring out how to get above 120 or so fire resist, and even 120 will be sacrificing about 1400 mana.

Here's what I have so far. Any recommendations?

Starfire Tiara (think that's the name, drops in UBRS, nice stats and +10 fire res)
Onyxia Key necklace (10 fr?)
Wizardweave Robe (big hit on mana here, was using mooncloth or mindsurge) (18 fr)
Wizardweave Leggings (17 fr)
Ward trinket from onyxia quest line (+8 resistences one)
+18 fire res ring (lose some int on this one too)
+7 fire resist to cloak

Working on:
Librams on helmet and legs for +20 each = +40

That will all get me around 120, but my stats will not be great. I normally would have 6500-6800 mana, with the above gear I have 5300.

I know that the priest DM trinket will help. How hard is it to obtain? Whom should I kill repeatedly for the book?

What else is possible to obtain that I'm missing?

Someone mentioned a cloak pattern off the fire guy outside BRD and bracers from the guy inside BRD. What are the stats on those, and how hard to get? (can't check thott or allakhaz from here).

BTW, I don't recommend fighting Vael in BWL without fire res gear. Was in raid twice, died within 5 seconds both times.

The priests in my guild all have over 200 FR. You can't worry about saving stats when you go all out FR; it won't happen. If you're looking for FR gear, the +FR bonus is number one priority and additional stats are secondary. It's very, very easy to get over 120 FR for a cloth caster; just check allakhazam.

You don't really need FR for most of the end game, only the MT does.

Good pieces are Flarecore mantle/gloves

Get a elder magus pendant off magister kalrendis in DM west. 10 Fr, with much better caster stats than the ony key. Do the questline from Duke Hydraxis in Azshara and the end reward is a 15 fr ring with decent stats. To get the DM trinket either buy the book or kill tendris warpwood in DM west to get it. He can be 3 manned fairly easily. Cape of the fire salamander from BRD with a 7 fr enchant is pretty nice as well, or your guild might make you an onyxia scale cloak. The bracers off lord incendius in brd have 9-10 of 2 stats (eagle, owl, etc) and 10 fr. As demenion mentioned, flarecore mantles and gloves are nice too. Dragonrider boots off rend have nice caster stats and 10 fr. Also, a good amount of the prophecy set has fr so as you get some of that youll build up more.

Flarecore is not an option yet, since I just joined the guild and they aren't yet willing to invest the materials for flarecore in me yet. Same for prophecy, don't have the DKP for those since I just joined.

Hydraxis quest requires that I have a certain minimum faction. Anyone know what it is? I believe I am already friendly with them, though I could be mistaken, from 10-15 MC runs that all ended at luci.

Who drops the cape of fire salamander? Is that the emperor?

Thanks for the DM info, seems like I have to farm it a bit.

200 FR on preists sounds like people who have built up DKP equity in the guild and earned the purple gear?

We kept our minimum FR for casters at 50....

. wtf 120 FR. Even in our Rag learning stages we only required 150 FR for rogues and 75 for everyone else (Except MT). Worked fine.

Edit: Get smokey's drape from EPL. Sta and Fire res.

Fire resist on your priest? Where are they positioning you that you need 200+ fire resistance, or do you have a best friend who plays a fire mage

Either way some good things
Prophecy / Flarecore - You have mentioned these arn't options to you yet, but flarecore mantle is probally one of the nicest things to have. 24FR, +10stam, +10int (or something like that) = ftw.
Blazing Emblem - 15FR. It's probally one of the best trinkets you can Have as a non Engineering toon. Also, on a cooldown (5minutes i think) is +50FR and -25fire dmg. Which i rarely use but has saved my life.

The DM Priest book is "Holy Balogna : what the light won't teach you" or something like that. Basically you get a 10FR, +33 healing, +3 mana /5sec? (not sure exact numbers, but 10FR). It's a good trinket to have for PvE.

You -could- wear the Onyxia Key, but if you farm the Guy who drops Mindtap Talisman in DM-W you can get an Elder Mangus Pendant(sp?). It's the demon guy near warpwood. It's 10FR but has decent caster stats, it was actually my main neck for awhile.

You can get an Onyxia Scale Cloak, which should be easy if this guild has had that dragon on farm status for awhile. It's pretty insane FR. 16FR, and then slap on a +9 (or whatever the value is, sorry i'm kinda flaky on specific numbers) FR enchant on it.

Dragon Rider boots are important too, they are better then devout (unless of course you're going for the full set bonus).

We've killed Rag several times, and we've downed onxyia now for months.


In general : the only time i wear Fire Resist is for Lava Packs (since they kick ass..). For rag, I've gotten away with just 100FR. The fireball isn't enough to kill me, shield renew, swim outa the lava, yadayada.

Casters are required 100 i think... no one checks of course. Melee are recommended to ahve 200. Of course.. our tank has 350FR... which might help too.

If you are a priest you should be going for 100FR unbuffed. It will be 160 buffed after paladin aura. I'm not sure what your current gear is but here is what I would do if I were you.

Dragonrider - Go for these only if you need to hit that 100

Cape of the salamander with +7FR = +14FR

Torch of Austen = 10FR

Mindtap talisman - DM - =+11/5secs
Priest DM trinket = +3mana/5secs : 10FR
Weapon + offhand
W/e main hand wheter it is a plus healing or has mana w/ +55to healing
Skull of burning shadows = 15FR

All of these are blues except for hide of the wild.
You can obtain everything listed here fairly easily.
Your main objective is to get 100FR unbuffed without hindering your stats.
You want adequete int and spirit.
You want items that have their own mana regen. This is vital.
A mage should follow the same list of items removing a few, but an ice mage with lots of spirit and mana regen will own damage meters in a Ragnaros fight.

When we were doing Rag attempts we kept dying when we went full out FR gear. DPS sucked, priests ran out of mana, mages ran out of mana, it was just crap. Don't gimp yourself. Fire resist will not help you if you get tossed into the lava. Random fireblasts will hit you from Rag which is why you want fire resist. And the 2nd encounter of BWL you'll want around 115 unbuffed.

I left about a month before the actual split so I missed all the drama. I'm still shown on the RPP page.. but no biggie I don't think I can go on your raids anyway. Unless you have some boe's that aren't being used.
