He gave you a ticket because you were questioning him... I don't drive fast, but sometimes you slip 5 - 15 mph over the posted speed. I've been pulled over almost a dozen times and have gotten out of the ticket every time. Show respect time and he'll give you a pass. (No Jinx)

I can relate to this. 2 years ago I was driving back from visiting my parents on I-79 through PA and a state trooper not only pulled me over doing 60 (again quoted 61) but wrote me up for it. I took it to court and he no showed, but still, that was a trip I shouldn't have even had to make.

My first car was a dodge stratus. When I was younger I drove horribly. I sped, I passed, I acted like a dick. I really was bad. The only time I was pulled over was in a speed trap in which I and about 4 other cars were all pulled over and once when for accidentally going up a one way (cop let me off, the sign saying one way had been badly placed or taken down or something).

Since then I have gotten a station wagon. I am constantly getting followed in it and have been pulled over a couple times for really no reason. I even got a 7 mile over the speed limit ticket which I fought and got put down to basically nothing.

I have gone out of my way in the last 2 years to become a much better driver. I have really grown up and drive much more cautiously. I speed, but not at an extreme. I've gotten boned, really badly recently.. if you care to look at my thread a few days ago.

I can not explain what caused the recent increase in problems since I got my new car. I assume since it is what most people see as kind of a "hippy" car and I live in a college town, they assume they are going to bust me DUI'ing or with possession. It has actually become an extreme annoyance.

I can't tell you why cops pull some over and ignore others. Maybe it is ennie, meanie, moe. Maybe it has to do with DWB (driving while black) or DWH (driving while hippie).
Don't know if this relates to you but you get the idea.

17 and in this

so I can see that I guess.

And no I'm not black, lol

I am willing to bet the 5 other cars or so were all middle age people in average cars. They pulled over the stupid kid in the beater hoping to bust you with drugs or some other mistake.

The average jerkoff on their way to work isn't going to have a sweet commendation worthy drug bust.

And what about the guys that got away with snuffing some dude. Why don't the cops go after them and not just me?

Excellent!

red color is every police officer's favorite target. and don't forget, insurance will be higher if your car is red.

Being a PA resident, it is one of the advantages that our State Troopers and even local cops tend not to bother to show up to cases they have slim chances of winning. They are just hoping for the jerkoff that will just pay the fine and move on. They have even started handing out "failure to follow traffic controls" which still has the fine but doesn't have the points, because they know in the long run that the average person will be pissed about the fine, but will go to court to keep their insurance down.

Tonight about 30 minutes ago, I was traveling down I-77 at about 60MPH in a 55. I was in the middle lane, keeping with the flow of traffic when this occurred. I wasn't passing anyone, nor was I tailgating, I was just in the middle of a pack of cars going just as fast as they were.

<insert flashy lights>

So I pull over, and the cop informs me that I was traveling 61MPH, 6 over the posted limit. I asked him why he didn't pull over the guys that were passing quickly on the left, and he "didn't see them". (o_0) I then asked him how accurate his radar gun was, and instantly he told me that he wasn't going to ticket me and to drive safer.

So I ask, what neat formula do the speed trap officers use to decide who to pull over? Is it the "inky binky bonkey" or the "eeny meany miney moe" method?

haha, I was so scared when the lights came on.

Sounds like you're a smartass. Your time will come. If you really want to know, radar is very accurate- +/- 1mph.

Or the entire post is shens..could be..

The only reason that question entered my mind was because three days ago I had to get a tire changed, and the guy at the shop was telling me that he got out of tickets that way, because the cop (IIRC) would let you go, because they didn't want to show up to court to defend it? Something along those lines. I honestly don't think I was going to get ticketed anyway, and I was being as un-smartass as possible (I genuinely wanted to know how accurate the gun was), and we were chatting the whole time back and forth. It's not like I was a douchebag to the guy, but I was a bit perturbed that he chose me out of the lot of cars. =/

From your post, it sounded that way- my apologies if it was misinterpreted.

Three hours overtime pay for a court appearance up here. We'll show up.

I am not talking about the other questions, but how is asking if the radar has been claibrated being a smartass? Every officer does calibrate his radar prior to using it correct?
Unless I just misunderstood, in that case

I don't calibrate mine everytime I use it.

I've heard it explained like this:

Driver gets pulled. Driver asks cop why he got pulled and all the other speeders got away.

Cop asks: "Ever been fishing?"
Driver: "Yes".

Cop then asks "Ever caught all the fish in the pond?"

Dude...look at the series of questions as a whole. It reeks of a know-it-all roadside lawyer, who, in reality, knows next to nothing about radar, traffic law or law enforcement in general. Perhaps I was initially mistaken, but that was my first impression.

(in NH)- We don't calibrate radar. The state-certified radar guys do. We test it. Yes, there is a difference.

Asking why a cop pulls someone over is like asking whether God exists, wtfknows? How old are you?

I-40 runs through my town. Speed limit never drops below 70MPH. The police can be seen blowing down the Interstate at 90+ most of the time. The only area I have seen the police ticket people is when you get into the windy parts going up and down mountains. I suppose they have a lot of crashes there.

Factors that may contribute to being picked out of the crowd:
1. Driving aggressively (tailgating, frequent lane changes, fast acceleration)
2. Having out of state plates
3. Having a crappy car
4. Having an expensive car
5. Having a modified car
6. Being a member of a non-Asian minority
(Edit)
7. Being under 25

Pulling someone over for 6mph over the speed limit is just insane.

i have heard, form cop friends, that they do this at random sometimes, to see if they get someone whose actually doing something more illegal, outside of speeding.

like in the other thread, maybe your speeding was just a reasonable cause to look for something else in your case... what kind of car / what do you look like?

I asked a cop that I knew personally about this once. He told me that they are instructed to pull over the car that is going the fastest if they are in a position where they need to decide between multiple vehicles, but it is ultimately up to their discretion. The idea is that when they give you badge they are relying on you to make the best decision rather than strictly follow any rules which are not covered by the law or regulations. I have no idea why you got pulled over though. 6 mph over the limit seems like an extreme case to me.

while you are correct with the snopes slink, humans are more preceptive to red and will notice it before other colors
