Tonight about 30 minutes ago, I was traveling down I-77 at about 60MPH in a 55. I was in the middle lane, keeping with the flow of traffic when this occurred. I wasn't passing anyone, nor was I tailgating, I was just in the middle of a pack of cars going just as fast as they were.

<insert flashy lights>

So I pull over, and the cop informs me that I was traveling 61MPH, 6 over the posted limit. I asked him why he didn't pull over the guys that were passing quickly on the left, and he "didn't see them". (o_0) I then asked him how accurate his radar gun was, and instantly he told me that he wasn't going to ticket me and to drive safer.

So I ask, what neat formula do the speed trap officers use to decide who to pull over? Is it the "inky binky bonkey" or the "eeny meany miney moe" method?

haha, I was so scared when the lights came on.

Contrary to what you want to believe about keeping up with traffic and tailgating, cops do not pull people over at random. You did something to attract his attention.

Sounds like you're a smartass. Your time will come. If you really want to know, radar is very accurate- +/- 1mph.

Or the entire post is shens..could be..

Don't speed then whine when you get nailed for it. Just because other people are breaking the law doesn't mean it's okay for you to do it.

The only reason that question entered my mind was because three days ago I had to get a tire changed, and the guy at the shop was telling me that he got out of tickets that way, because the cop (IIRC) would let you go, because they didn't want to show up to court to defend it? Something along those lines. I honestly don't think I was going to get ticketed anyway, and I was being as un-smartass as possible (I genuinely wanted to know how accurate the gun was), and we were chatting the whole time back and forth. It's not like I was a douchebag to the guy, but I was a bit perturbed that he chose me out of the lot of cars. =/

Pretend you're a cop and look at some cars on the highway. I know I'd go for the trashy, the highend, the bright colors and if I can see the driver, the kiddies.

Is your car red?

I read an article that said red cars get pulled over more than any other color.

From your post, it sounded that way- my apologies if it was misinterpreted.

Three hours overtime pay for a court appearance up here. We'll show up.

Do you have a legal right to know how fast you were going when your are pulled over? How do you check the points against your license?

1) It'll be on the ticket.

2) Contact the DMV.

I once shot a guy and the fucking pigs started hassling me. I mean all i did was bust a cap in some guys ass. Don't they have better things to do like arrest child molesters?
And what about the guys that got away with snuffing some dude. Why don't the cops go after them and not just me?

I am not talking about the other questions, but how is asking if the radar has been claibrated being a smartass? Every officer does calibrate his radar prior to using it correct?
Unless I just misunderstood, in that case

I sometimes wonder about that too. I suspect that in an area without any "obvious targets" such as 100 in a 65mph type drivers, they just drive and pick people at random to see if there's anything else they could ticket you for (old registrations etc...). Also the sight of seeing a cop pull someone over is a nice way to deter speeders.

I was pulled over a little while ago, and I asked the cop how fast I was going and she said, "faster than me." She gave me a ticket for violating traffic signals or something (it was on the highway, by the way) which came to $75 bucks. However, she did not mark the speed down on the ticket. I don't know how you get "points" on your license though, and I hope I didn't.
