If two people want to game at the same house can they share the account and have 2 characters - at once? Or do you have to pay 30$ a month for 2 accounts?

If you log into an account that someone is already playing on, it will kick them off.
So yeah, you will need 2 accounts to play at the same time.

You can have upwards to 40 characters on a single account, but you can only be logged into one of them at a time.
