i thought all computer geeks listened to linkin park and evanscensnance

my favorites are Meshuggah, Opeth, Nevermore, Strapping Young Lad, Testament, Nile, Death, Carcass (reunion in June) and Cryptopsy... I also occasionally listen to Children of Bodom, Nightwish, Black Label Society, and Pantera (my high school favorite)

I also listen to other shit so I don't quite consider myself a metalhead. Hooverphonic, Diana Krall, Tchaikovsky, Dream Theater, Gary Moore, Pink Floyd, Dido, and Nicole Atkins all float my boat

share your favorites!

Zao is my absolute favorite, but I also love Tool and Lamb of God. BTBAM is another standby.

Dudes, Opeth and Zao are absolutely amazing (although The Fear is What Keeps us Here is way too emocore for my tastes... The Funeral of God was absolutely incredible though. And of course Opeth can do nothing short of perfection). Other favorites are Dream Theater, Iced Earth, Metallica, Lamb of God, Nile, Iron Maiden, In Flames, Children of Bodom, Arch Enemy, Testament, Pantera and Emperor. The new Trivium album is pretty good too.

Oh, and since we're also sharing non-metal bands, I also love country (Alan jackson, Clint Black, Dierks Bentley, Nickel Creek, Brad Paisley and George Strait just to name a few), oldied, classic rock and a bit of hip-hop. Just discovered Explosions in the Sky too, a post-rock, Godspeed You! Black Emperor type of band. Going to see them in concert next in April.

Well crap - are we gonna have to argue about what 'metal' is again?

Given my personal interpretation of metal (basically loud and/or aggressive), I would say Sevendust has to be one of my current favorites. Other stuff that gets played frequently - early Staind, Stone Sour, Mudvayne, Disturbed, Godsmack, Stereomud, Drowning Pool and more. It has changed over the years, as in high school I was a diehard Iron Maiden fan, and listened extensively to Ozzy, Judas Priest, Savage Grace, Queensryche, Metallica, Venom, Mercyful Fate/King Diamond, Scorpions, Warlock, Accept. etc. I wouldn't DREAM of listening to anything even remotely mellow - if it wasn't metal it was crap as far as I was concerned. In college I got hooked on Danzig, Testament, Metal Church, Soundgarden, Prong, Overkill, Anthrax, Pantera and the like. Through time I have branched out more, and now enjoy a lot more variety in music, but at heart I am still a metalhead.

Slipknot
Stone Sour
Tool
Trivium
DevilDriver
Korn
Mushroomhead

I like heavy beats and deeper voices, or at least voices and lyrics you can hear.
The shrilly high pitched screaming metal are not my cup o tea.

Maybe, but I still find it hard to listen to for extended periods of time. I can't quite put my finger on it. It just doesn't work for me.

In a moment of hilarity, when they played @Los Angeles, he forgot not one, but two verses in one of their songs. He was not pleased. He also dresses like a modern day vampire.

It's cool to say you really listen to metal online bonus for making it some really obscure band.

I don't think most of those are considred metal. They fall more into the category of hard rock.
