I have to agree.

I just bought a couple 250 gig Samsung Spinpoints for my PVR and they are very high quality indeed.

Just went from a seagate 7200.7 80gb to a samsung 250gb. I couldn't stand the annoying offline seek that the seagate did. Super happy with the Samsung.

Did the same thing with a PVR 500..............have to agree they are quiet although I did have one develop bad sectors within 1.5 months........Samsung took care of it quickly though so all's well! Now if they would just go to the 5 year warranty! Saw on another forum though that Seagate is about ready to release another line of drives though and they are claiming the "quietest drives in the business" as the lines motto........guess we'll see........

 Samsungs are tbe best drive i've ever owned. Silent seeks and reads. I had to put my ear to about 2" of the case to hear it.

i guess my next hard drive will be seagate. i hate the humming of my seagate 7200.7 even at idle. its about as loud as my 6800fan. too bad samsung doesn't make 16mb cache drives... do they?

I too recommend Samsung hard drives. I just wish they had a bigger selection.

chache is not as important as how a hdd uses it(the algorithims). A Samsung 2mb chache i tested(before i returned it for a 8mb chache one) was about as fast as the average 8mb chache hdd on storagereview.

Good thing i bumped into this thread. Might as well get the Samsung then. The sATA 80gb 7200rpms cost around $70.

I am also quite happy with my Samsung Sata-2 ncq HD160JJ. Super quiet and very fast. So far no major problems at all with any of the usual nVidia IDE driver issues with this drive.

Our desktops here at work shipped with WD, Seagate and Samsung HDD's. So far, WD/Seagate are probably neck and neck for failures... I haven't seen a single machine come in yet with a dead Samsung. Almost all of our new P4 systems are shipping with Samsung drives and they're darn quiet. I'm actually thinking of going with Samsung for my next build.
