I went to our local salvation army today and wow, you cna get some nice clothes there for like 2 bucks. I got this really nice flannel jacket type thing and some flannel shirts for 9 bucks. Great deals if you want to save, wash clothing once from the store and its used why pay new prices.

The sad thing is that some people think they are too good to be seen at a salvation army store, but that just leaves more for you and me =P

Leave some for the people that it was started for. You know, people that aren't cheap, they can't afford it.

Be careful what you buy. I got a jacket there and threw it away because of this brown stain which didn't seem to come out. No, it wasn't poop. It was dried blood...:Q

C'mon now. This is a new low.

That stuff is for people that can't even afford a computer.

Yeah, ditto. Some Old Navy t-shirts are like $2.50 on Amazon. T-shirts are also cheap when GAP clears them out.

I think i donate enough of my old clothes that i earned the right to buy 2-3 shirts every 3 months from their place. I spend $12 and the clothes that i buy must have been sitting on the rack for years. So i doubt i'm stealing clothing from the less fortunate.

It's called capitalism. It's not theirs, it's not yours, it's who gets to the clothes first and throws down green.

now you can be punk/underground/hardcore for under 10 bucks

I don't see how it makes any difference who buys the clothing. All the money goes toward Salvation Army projects. The more people buy, the more the S.A. can do to help others. It seems like a win-win situation if you ask me.

NOT so.

SA and many other institutions (in SE VA, Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters is a biggy) run thrift stores to raise money.

Goods are donated (AND you can take a tax write off for it) and then sold to whomever wants it. As stated above, the more people buy, the more money the institution raises for worthy causes. I have picked up an occasional shirt or whatever, but have also donated several older computers I had no use for as well as TONS of clothing and used house hold goods.

Sure beats throwing stuff away, any way you look at it.

As to "some diseases just don't wash out," each to his own opinion, but mine is "BS!"

Actually there are certain skin diseases that require the clothes to be washed in close to boiling temperature water to be completely disinfected. However, such skin diseases are rare in the US and I think that it should practically be a non-issue. I don't know if the SA runs the donated clothes through a cleaning or disinfecting process, because they might.

I washed the clothes in my washing machine at super hot temperatures Just to settle my mind. Yeah i donate a lot of stuff to salvationa army. I am entitled to BUY a few things once in a while.

Mondays here they have half off clothing so its even a better buy. I just hate wasting money on myself, i don't mind spending it on a special someone and i am sure they'll be happy i'll have more of it for them. My woman can buy new clothes but i'll buy used clothes.

Oh yeah one more thing, i know there is this store called the "Mustard Seed" in Bethesda Maryland, that woman shop at for used clothes its more upscale and I know a girl that used to get her jeans there because she liked the warn out look.

Any ladies familiar with that store? In fact I used to sell my jeans there when i was smaller and out grew them. THey'd actually BUY back good clothes.
