My grandfather, who is over 90yo, and still has his drivers license.
He drives over curbs, doesn't pay enough attention to the other drivers, or street signs.
The renew his license every year. He can pass the driving test fine, but that test is in a place is with no distractions.
I've asked him to stop driving for several years. I'm very afraid that he's going to hurt himself, or someone else. But he will drive to the grocery store, and other local stops.
I don't live real close to him, and any family that does are too busy with life (college, and working to pay for college) to drive him most of the time.
This is indeed a sad situation. I see people say "old folks shouldn't drive" But what is he supposed to do? Not eat??
He will not even consider an old folks home, and I don't blame him. Except for driving, he is still very self sufficient. If I were in his situation, and someone wanted to put me in a home, I'd tell them to go to hell, just like he does.
I really wish there was an easy answer.
