old people are the biggest menace in today's society. Screw the racist polarization - its about time we re-tested old drivers every 6 fvcking months.

I suppose this journal entry is true, but I couldn't help noticing some strange details:

"He wasn't wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from his car; thank god my daughters were wearing theirs."

I suppose people can survive being thrown out of a car, but an old guy?

"He got the maximum penalty, a $1000 fine, had to take a driving safety class and lost his license for a year."

Doesn't this warrant vehicular manslaughter?

Yeah DUBYA TEE EFF!!! Guy should lose the license permanently and screw the money, toss the old geezer in jail! I still don't get it. My insurance is higher because I'm a safe driver and male, but females get cheaper insurance and old people that can't even drive get cheaper insurance.

Wow! I was thinking this happened up North, but then I found out it was an old guy and Florida came to mind. Come to find out, this incident happened 40 mins from where I live. It's very sad. In Florida, you get two types of old people -- those who drive really fast and those who are slower than a 2400 bps modem.

, not too far from where I live.

Very sad, I had the hardest time breaking up with someone I thought I loved, yet alone, having my own wife leave me in such a manner.... forever. I doubt I would be able to handle such a situation as strong as he has.

However, I am happy that he and his daughters are continuing to thrive despite such a tradegy. They are a very strong willed family.

Meanwhile, that elderly man is horrible. He has no remorse for the the family, and is instead worried about himself rather than the two children whom have lost their own mother. We have such a sad world nowadays with an extreme lack of responibility. I hope one day he realizes the pain he has caused by trying to run that light, and eventually could provide some type of remorse for the family.

I can only hope that the old man can hang around long enough to suffer enough physical pain to begin to understand what the poor girls went through, then spends the rest of eternity being roasted in hell for his attitude afterwards.

Older drivers (65+) should be retested every year but the p*ssy politicans will no touch this subject with a ten foot poll! Old people vote in huge numbers and the last thing they want to do is piss off their main voting blocks. Young people don't vote in large numbers so that's why politicans will attack issues such as cutting college loans.

IMO old people are a menance to society. They do nothing but waste our resources, cause accidents and complain. Also, they take up precious oxygen that could go to young people like myself!!! I need clean oxygen goddamnit!

yeah, my g/f's family lives in Florida. Her little brother got hit while riding his bike by a speeding car. They do not know what happened exactly, but they called it a hit and run. My g/f's little sister found her little brother just lying in the street all bloody about 5 minutes later. What makes this story truley sad is that this was during a monring commute, so their were definately cars on the road. However, NOT ONE car stopped to help my g/f's brother. My g'/f's sister said that when she arrived, several cars passed, slowed down to look to see what happened, and just drove away. How some people can be so cold hearted, I don't know. I just thank god that he is alright, although, he did suffer lots of broken bones.

My grandfather, who is over 90yo, and still has his drivers license.

He drives over curbs, doesn't pay enough attention to the other drivers, or street signs.

The renew his license every year. He can pass the driving test fine, but that test is in a place is with no distractions.

I've asked him to stop driving for several years. I'm very afraid that he's going to hurt himself, or someone else. But he will drive to the grocery store, and other local stops.

I don't live real close to him, and any family that does are too busy with life (college, and working to pay for college) to drive him most of the time.

This is indeed a sad situation. I see people say "old folks shouldn't drive" But what is he supposed to do? Not eat??

He will not even consider an old folks home, and I don't blame him. Except for driving, he is still very self sufficient. If I were in his situation, and someone wanted to put me in a home, I'd tell them to go to hell, just like he does.

I really wish there was an easy answer.

I don't know what I would do it something like that happened. I would be so depressed/sad/angry. Life would lose a lot of it's meaning if it weren't for the kids.

no words can describe the feeling.

What's worse is that the people who cause the accidents always seem to survive it themself. :|
