Wow.. Went from a 10,300 to a 11,800 in 3dMark2001 with the change from a 9500 PRO to a 9800 PRO

What you should be upgrading is to a very mature Nforce2ultra MCP-T board with a moblie 2500.. good winbond memory... Ratchet it up to 4000+ (2700 Ghz) on air and wait another 2 years until the 64/chiposets/memory/PCIE is mature. This would be about the same price as the 9800 and double your scores.

I think we all agree the scores are little low to start with.

My Radeon 9500Pro with my Barton 2500+ and 1G PC333 memory (Asus A7N8X, all at stock speeds) almost hits 13000 in 3DMark2001. And, of course, this system overclocks like crazy with PC400 mem now . Sounds like you need to tweak your bios/system/driver settings (i.e. no AA/AF, make sure mems are running at 333MHz, etc.).

As for actual game play, I would expect the 9800Pro to really only make a noticeable difference over the 9500Pro on the newer DX9 titles with AA/AF on (which, after all, is the point of the 9800Pro . Could certainly be worth the upgrade for someone with a high end system, if they got a good deal on the 9800Pro and the re-sale of their 9500Pro.

Agree, your scores are kinda low for a 9800 Pro. Roughly that's what I had with a 9600Pro, before upgrading to a 9800XT beast...
