I have become very fond of the Yoga 13. You can upgrade the ram to 8gb insanely easy and it comes with a second msata so for $1200 you can have i5, 8gb ram, and 384gb of SSD.

I will get a 2nd gen one of these. I learned my lesson after jumping on the original Xoom and seeing how much things improved a year later.

He quoted you quite correctly. I thought the same about the notion of the Pro being price dropped to the RT's level.

I think it was a bad idea on Microsoft's part to begin with and I think the market is better off without RT in the picture.

Yeah the ARM tablets are pointless. The primary advantage of a Windows device, backwards compatibility, is completely lost with Windows RT. And it divides the market and gives a bad impression of Microsoft's products.

I agree, let the other tablet manufacturers concentrate on tablets for media consumption. Microsoft should concentrate on blazing a trail for tablets that can actually be used as a pretty capable tablet oriented computer.

I was investigating purchasing about 10 ipads for our department at work being that they can be used to capture signatures on web forms; but once I learned how limited they are in accomplishing common tasks such as printing on a label printer or even renaming pictures taken with the device I have changed my mind.

so now I am investigating our purchasing 10 Surface Pros for the office, I just have to learn how to capture a signature on a web form with it, and waiting on a 4G LTE version.

I also agree. Its going to be an interesting read with the reviews upon its release. I am still deciding whether to jump on board or wait until the second gen is released. After reading some reviews ( or should I say "previews" ) and actually using the Surface RT (No,did not buy it), the case seems very stout and as for the sofware, limited. Personally, the Pro, seems to be a fit fo me...may be a better alternative from my laptop. will see....

Im in the same boat as a lot of people here, in that i want to wait for a haswell surface, but im just so excited that i might just jump on this now, and then upgrade when the next comes out.

How long until we see a haswell surface? 1 year from this release? or whenever haswell ultrabooks start popping up?

How well will this handle games, compared to a sandy bridge macbook air? Will it be about the same as a ivb ultrabook? (because it essentially is?) Ideally i would KILL to be able to play xcom/civ5/borderlands2 on this.

Any chance of MS integrating an xbox receiver in this? That would be my dream device.

1) There are some rumors of the next x86 Surface using AMD's tablet SoC (Temash). Now before you get into a tizzy about not using Haswell, the main weakness of Intel's mobile chips has always been graphics which AMD has always excelled at. Plus, none of AMDs mobile chips have ever lacked in CPU power, the problem has been power consumption for both companies.
2) I'd expect an update to both in September/October.
3) Probably won't see an integrated Xbox receiver.

That would be some fast turnaround. At that rate, I'd much rather wait for the 2nd gen Surface.

A Temash Surface would be a pretty cool device too, especially if they manage to keep its dimensions and thermals similar to the Surface RT.

I will most likely get a first-gen Pro.

I've been using the Asus EP121 with windows 8 since the Dev preview, and I loved every minute of it. Having a bridge between my phone and my work computer while walking around the office was great, and being able to use the pen in presentations was awesome. I'll take a full copy of office over a tablet app any day.

100% agree with you, but I also sometimes consider buying the 1st gen product used.

Hoping this is as great as it can be. Getting tired of the limitations of my iPad 3 (jailbroken on iOS 5 still). If this launches smoothly and the reviews are good (don't need to play games just do homework/browse web/email, basic stuff) I will sell the iPad and grab one.

I think it'll be a great ultrabook. I don't think it would be a very good tablet.

Same. To me the ideal tablet is between 7-8". However, I have found that I definitely do enjoy having touch screen capability on a laptop.

As much as i want a surface pro/haswell surface pro - im really impressed by what lenovo is doing.

The yoga looked pretty sweet, but the model i tried out in the store was a little bulky. 13 inches imo is probably too big for something like this - at least until they start to implement super slim bezel's and thinner devices. I just saw that they are also releasing a yoga 11 inch, which will be 800 bucks, and looks like a very strong competitor to the surface pro.

heres the video:
http://youtu.be/NdEdihSAOSY

Only downside is that its a little bulkier, and youll have to rest it on the keys when in tablet mode, but when comparing to a surface pro (ivb)

+better keyboard
+keyboard is always attached - and available to use as a stand, laptop, etc
+cheaper (800 with keyboard vs 900-100 without)
+/-slightly bigger screen
-lower res (for me not entirely a bad thing - id rather play civ V at native lower res, rather than having to choose a low res on a 1080p display. I actually am OK with the low res on the surface RT on a device that small)
-not made by MS (not sure why i care - google ruined me)
-just found out it doesnt come out until june - which by then you really are just better off waiting for a haswell surface

I think either way, the surface 2 is gonna make this gen almost obsolete, but i think either way, i may just pick up something, and then sell it when haswell comes out. I think if both the surface pro and the yoga 11s were out today, id probably go with the lenovo.

If the Yoga 11 were just a smaller version of the Yoga 13, it'd be a strong competitor for the Surface Pro, but the Yoga 11 is a Tegra 3 Windows RT tablet instead of a Core i5 Windows 8 tablet.

There are two versions of the Yoga 11, the original one is Tegra 3 but the second is x86.

I didn't see an x86 version on their site. If that's the case that's going to be a good option. The Helix looks like a very good competitor as well.
