I just installed ics to share my dial-up connection with two computers. Now I can' t use wowring any more. I think the reason is the software router (Microsoft' s ics). Wowring help says if you are behind a fire wall, proxy server or private LAN, following ports must be opened:

(1) Open all TCP and UDP ports over 1024 [for both input and output] to remote systems.
(2) H.323 ports: TCP port 1720, UDP ports 1717, 1718, 1719 [for both input and output].
(3) RTP ports; UDP ports; For 1 E1 4000-4400; For 2 E1 4000-4800; For 3 E1 4000-5200; For 4 E1 4000-5600.

What does this mean? How do I open these ports?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

PS I use Windows 2000.

I don't remember exactly where it is, but you have to go to the sharing properties for that adapter (dialup adapter) and look for port mapping. You have to map the ports it mentioned to the internal ip of the pc inside ICS you want to use Wowring with. Unfortunately by port mapping, you will only be able to use Wowring on one of the computers, not both. I'm pretty sure that's the only way you can do it with M$'s ICS.

I found a detailed instruction for dialpad:

Windows Internet Connection Sharing (Windows 2000 ICS)
(Thanks to Aaron Shaffer)
Here's how to enable Dialpad for Windows 2000 ICS (this is almost identical for Win98 as well.)
1. Go to the 'Properties' of your internet connection.
Choose the 'Sharing' tab along the top.
2. Click the 'Settings' button.
Choose the 'Services' tab along the top.
3. Click the 'Add' button.
4. In the Name box, enter "Dialpad1"
In the port box enter "51210"
Choose the 'TCP' button
In the address box, enter the IP of the computer on which you wish to enable Dialpad
Click 'Ok'
5. Click the 'Add' button.
6. In the Name box, enter "Dialpad2"
In the port box, enter "51200"
Choose the 'UDP' button
In the address box, enter the IP of the computer on which you wish to enable Dialpad
Click 'OK'
7. Click the 'Add' button.
8. In the Name box, enter "Dialpad3"
In the port box, enter "51201"
Choose the 'UDP' button
In the address box, enter the IP of the computer on which you wish to enable Dialpad
Click 'OK'
9. You are finished!
If you want to disable Dialpad (no reason to do this), uncheck the little boxes beside Dialpad1, Dialpad2, and Dialpad3. To reneable Dialpad, check all three boxes again.
Note: To get the IP address of your computer in Windows 2000, go to the command prompt and type "ipconfig."

I did not exactly follow the instructions. I thought every port was for one pc, so that you would be able to use dialpad on 3 pcs. I followed steps 1 to 5 (I entered ip 192.168.0.1). Then I did this: 6. Entered "Dialpad2" in the name box. Entered "51200" in the port box. Chose the 'TCP' button. Entered IP 192.168.0.2 in the address box.

I did not follow steps 7 and 8. I used dialpad and it worked fine.

So why do you have to choose the 'UDP' button? What are steps 7 and 8 for?
Can I use this instruction for wowring, too? What do I have to enter?

Now I am using Windows Me. WowRing does not work at all (right after installation without ics enabled). Why?

You can download a tool called "ics configurator" at practicallynetworked. Can I open the ports with that tool. It looks like you can open the ports mentioned in (1) and (2), but no RTP port configuration. How do you set RTP ports?
