I clean installed WinXP Pro, onto my master drive, with a slave drive also put in. When completed, it had my master as E: drive and my slave as C: drive......It installed all XP on the E: drive though. It the Windows drive manager, I was able to change the "C:" to something else, but I couldn't change my "E" to "C" because it was the boot volume. How can I do this? If it means doing something and reinstalling XP again, I don't mind.

The method I know is to delete all partitions during Windows Setup, with just your intended Windows drive hooked up. Anyone got a better method, please say

Or not connect the extra drive during install, then once it's done installing, put in last drive?

Yeah, as long as they don't clash and both want to be the boot drive. I'm not sure how your particular system will arbitrate between two bootable drives that both have Windows installations which don't "know" eachother (ie, not set up as a dual-boot arrangement), but my guess is that it will take the Primary Master over other HDDs.

well, my slave wasn't supposed to be a boot drive, it's just multimedia on it, not OS. I only have one OS and that's on the primary, that was named the wrong drive letter

I don't know any official reason why XP will occasionally do that, but the only way to correct it is to wipe and reload. If you do that, only have the main drive and cdrom in it. Do not have another hard drive in it, and don't have any usb devices plugged in that are memory device capable, like a photo printer that has a flash memory slot. Disconnect anything firewire also.

I think the Primary Master is correct, but I would disconnect everything else during an install of the OS, also.
