Of course, it probably would have helped significantly if he had pulled the brake, but it wouldn't have been an instant stop. He'd still have to have the presence of mind to point his car in a different direction.

The kid is just a retarded driver. Clutch in + brake down != Going through house. Damage to engine from revving with clutch down < Damage to car now.

Now add brakes that don't suck. What specific car are you speaking of?

Look at the pictures that show the lawn. The tire tracks through the grass definitely show he wasn't trying to get in to the garage !

This cracks me up

hey guys, i was on the way to lunch, and my VVT-i kicked in at 12mph!! my mpg shot up to 35, and i barrelled through 5 chain link fences, a BBQ pit, and some flower beds. i was then sideswiped by some lady on her cell phone in an H2, and suddenly found myself in a 90mph mad sideways drift manuver that i couldn't recover from like i usually can in GT3. i finally came to rest behind a dumpster at arby's after crashing through a cinderblock wall like an 87 octane kool-aid man. my friend who was playing basketball (in the arby's parking lot, no less), ran over to see if i was OK, but he couldn't open the door to get me out, as the surface of the car was red hot. apparently it had something to do with the JDM flux capacitor (assembled in canada) interacting with the friction from USDM air. i was at the top of 3rd and the car just took off, and the voice of the CEO of toyota came over the radio and told me i was going to die! the accelerator jammed down, and the seatbelts tightened themselves around me like one of those ghost cars, and the doors locked! next thing i know, i crashed into the garage of this house, after speeding through a residential neighborhood against my will, and the car finally stopped when a piece of the garage fell on the ECU so the police were unable to pull any data from it to try and figure out what happened. my friend was playing basketball across the street, and ran over to see what happened. apparently the water that splashed up from a puddle when the VVT-i kicked in got on some wiring and made the car go crazy, since it was USDM H2O interacting with the JDM electrical connections. true story. in closing, i believe JDM cars should only be reserved for true enthusiasts like me that can handle them, since in the hands of a lesser person, no one would be alive to tell the tale.

Mazda 3s. I don't know what brakes are in the Subaru, but if he was redlining in 3rd like he says, they'd have to be a shitload better to reverse the effect.

despite the great freedoms given to all the citizens of our country, I'm still in favor of limiting the horsepower of a vehicle to inexperienced drivers. I still don't have positive confirmation of this, but it is what I heard... in other countries (Singapore?), when a person first gets a license, they are limited to a low cc vehicle and as years pass, they graduate in power.

This would work out for the better since we all know how much angst/aggression younger drivers typically have. I was one of them. I can't believe kids nowadays have 300hp at their disposal while still in HS where impressing friends is the name of the game. Anyway, once they learn to properly handle a vehicle, they can have all the freedom they like. Before you guys go ape$#it over "taking away freedoms"... cliche: driving is a privilege, not a right.

And if you still disapprove, make sure you're not the old man against re-testing seniors either.

Not really. You said you could overpower your parking brake. My Civic can overpower its parking brake.

He should have just bought the Kia Rio STi - he gets all that mAd tYt3 l0oKz y0, and none of the potential to kill himself or someone else.

Two things I'm wondering.

First, he says his friend saw the accident. His friend just 'happened' to be on the side of the street watching? Maybe his friend was there to watch him perform some 'cool' stunt, like "watch how fast I can take this corner."

Second, if he hit the brakes hard, going that fast, shouldn't there be some kind of marks on the street?

I haven't read his entire thread on the other forums, and I've never driven a WRX, so maybe I'm wrong here. Feel free to correct me.

Whats even worse... is now that Its prolly gonna be totalled... My parents cosigned for me and they get the check and are keeping all profit from it and I'm not allowed to get the money back so now I will be carless and moneyless. SO I dunno how I'm gonna buy it back and sell the parts to the people that want them.

Good to see his parents finally wised up.

WRX has excellent brakes. Only an inexperienced noob wouldn't be able to control a car with a stuck throttle. It is very simple, you push in the clutch and push on the brakes at the same time. Duh...

He was going too fast and is trying to blame his lack of good judgement and ability to control the car on the car.

Okay, you win. Man, I'm 0/2 on OT today... first Nebor and now you.

What were we discussing/arguing? I don't remember.

In socal, average freeway speed is like 80 if traffic is light and limit is 65. If you happen to be the lucky guy with a CHP on your ass, you will get a ticket.

same thing in norcal. flow of traffic WILL get you a ticket. my commute includes a 50 MPH mountain highway where they ticket for 60 and there are 3 cops who run radar all day, everyday, just picking people off like flies. flow of traffic: 60-65. i learned very quickly to never run alone, even if it means poking along behind some semi-trailer.

haha, i was thinking the same thing. my parking brake can barely hold my pitiful 4-banger in place at idle. the real brakes are another story, of course.

a) Lose his license for a minimum of 90 days, and a year would be better.

b) Get a conviction for reckless driving, to document this incident.

c) Have his insurance cancelled, to force him to seek insurance from one of the very costly high-risk carriers.

d) His parents should use whatever leverage they have (he is apparently 18, but they cosigned on the loan) to get him out of this car. If he must have a car at all, it should be something completely tame, like a Civic HX.

I am a very laid-back guy, but if I were home when this little moron drove _THROUGH_ my house, I'd be hard-pressed to restrain myself from kicking his ass.

A WRX is not a Porsche GT1. It must have taken several seconds to reach 80+ MPH, even if you believe the throttle stuck (which I am VERY skeptical of). If he can't figure out to push in the clutch, slam on the brakes, and/or turn the car off to stop it in that period of time, he is a danger to himself and others if he's allowed to drive a reasonably fast car like this.

I am with you 100%. If my child was out in the yard, and this had happened, I'd have gone to jail for sure.
