Speculation (of course), but they must think these drivers are somehow going to be gamechangers to up the profile of this release just a couple months away from a potential new launch.

Weird, but I can wait a day.

from the amd facebook page in response to a question about when they're going to be available:

"We decided to make some last minute tweaks to the driver, look for it later this week"

welp, that settles it for me. to hell with amd. i'm utterly sick and tired of their bullshit. no new real drivers (not that optimized windows 8 crap) for over two months, and now this horse crap? wtf. i will definitely be going nvidia next year, that's for sure.

Just saying, while I am disappointed, I can't help but feel that is a little bit dramatic for a driver which is a few days late. This is probably the biggest/most significant driver that AMD has ever released, while I am disappointed, it's also worth the wait...

At least they got a sense of humor.

SCrew it, picking up a pair of GTX 780's on my way home after work. I'm done waiting.

Yes, spending $1300 on a pair of video cards because of a 24-hour delay to the driver update is a totally logical decision

Lol at the outrage over a driver

It's a DRIVER...for a VIDEO CARD. Chill out

a few days late? people have been waiting well over a year now for this driver, and amd officially announced it months ago. they said "soon" 6 months ago. then they gave a us a date for june. then they said "end of july" and now we have to wait till "later this week" when it was promised for today. this is bullshit.

No, it's the end of the world, RAAAAAAAAGGGGEEEEEE!

If this drive works properly I'll swap back the two 7950's I have and replace the 7970 in my main box to play with it. Hoping X-fire works fine.

video cards i spent nearly 1,200 dollars for last year. a company providing timely support for their products and to their customers is standard protocol. amd is failing miserably on this front.

Sheesh, dramatic much? It's a 24-48 hour delay, calm down. This is a significant release for them, they're well aware of the attention it's getting. If they need an extra day or two to make sure everything goes smoothly, I'm not going to begrudge them that. I've been involved with big software development projects before, and lots of little things can crop up at the last minute.

Plus, deciding between AMD & Nvidia for your next-gen purchase based on something like this is shaky logic at best. Over the course of this whole GPU war, the advantage has shifted back and forth multiple times, both with the hardware and the software. However you feel about the current state of things, that's no guarantee the landscape won't change by the time you're ready to buy your next video card.

Hello stranger! I feel honored your first post was a response to me

But who said anything about spending $1300?

Not I.

Welps, until the new driver drops (few hours I guess) might as well just ask.

Anyone having weird high GPU usage with their second GPU in CFX?

I noticed it during Bioshock: Infinite and again now during Dead Space 3.

Secondary GPU is pegged at 99% Load even if I'm just at a menu. Prior to using Windows 8.1 and the preview driver, I'd have almost equal scaling, ie GPU1+2 would both be in the 30-40% load.

Now GPU1 is 30-40% load and GPU2 is pegged at 99%. It's getting hot. And since it has the inferior cooler, it is getting damn hot!

Feels like bulldozer tbh... Lots of hype, delays, promises... delays...

The NDA is almost comical really, why would there be an NDA what purpose does it serve seriously?

AMD hasn't even hyped it themselves though, the only hype is what people like Skymtl have said. If you want to compare a delay of a few days to month long delays, then I can't say I agree...

NDA is because it has a release date, if they didn't give an NDA then reviewers would have been posting reviews days ago, giving Nvidia a heads up to how well the driver works early... NDA also incentivizes posting reviews ASAP.

Create hype? Make it seem the driver is way more important any previous ones? I can see a few reasons.

AMD don't need extra hype since everyone has been waiting for the sli fix for months. They just want to get it right the first time.

Screw it, who wants to play games anyways. I forgot how much of a PITA Origin is. Deleted my whole game - Don't even know how.

Guess I'll break in the new drivers with another attempt at Dead Space 3.

I bought a 8800GTS 640 on launch day for CAD$600 (which was and still is the most I've spent on a single video card). Worst driver experience I've ever had with a video card (CTDs, blue screens, shadow flickering...). I didn't pay to be a beta tester for nVidia, etc, etc.

That experience still did not stop me from buying a 8800GT only a year later, and a GTX 460 a couple of years after that, which I never had issues with. Driver support has been pretty good in both camps IMO but you will have issues with either as well. Don't assume that driver issues are relegated to AMD only.

Why do people have this urge to defend their team by trying to put the other team down or a "they do it too" rebuttal?

I totally agree with Monster88. AMD has been terrible with drivers this go around. These magic drivers were mentioned some time in April. There is no reason why they wouldn't trickle them out for users since then.

I have no intentions of switching teams this gen (or next) but woof is AMD doing its user base wrong.

I persisted, and you know what I got? A headache.

So, Dead Space 3 has the same goddamn issue Dead Space 1 and 2 had - in-game v-sync locks you at 30 FPS.

No problem, went into Catalyst turned on v-sync "Always On". Nope.
Made a profile for Dead Space 3, made sure to set V-sync "Always On". Nope.

Why can't CCC override this game?

Google-fu, shows setting v-sync on for NV Control Panel works. But CCC doesn't?

Okay, guess I'll go the route I tried with DS1+DS2, D3D:O. Sad I have to use yet another third party tool for an option that is included in CCC but doesn't work.

And now D3D:O doesn't work 100% with Win8? Awesome.

Freaking awesome. Before anyone says "download Radeon Pro, LOL" I did. I got v-sync working, but some how it disabled CFX.

Before someone says "you don't need CFX for Dead Space 3, LOL" I know, I got 60 FPS with v-sync and no tearing on one card.

Kudos AMD, you still continue to get my money - and I'm running out of ways to justify.

LMAO!

Seriously, this post made my day. Never have I ever seen somebody rage so hard over a 24-48 HOUR delay. There have been things that are pushed back for months and had less rage. At least AMD has never had drivers that brick video cards (twice).

So much drama. Is just a driver.

I bet while crossfire will appear nice in the fcat ghaphics most of the users will not notice any significant difference.

This will be just one less forum flame fuel and we will go back to physx and crap driver routine.
