Try clicking on "recommended servers", just below the 'customize it' button.

it's true you have to select the lowest configueration and you will ended up $349 plus tax and there is a $100 mail in rebate.

sell the CPU and the RAM and the Hard drive and you will end up a pretty great deal. This has a great moboboard.

I believe $249 after rebate is base price for all the basic options and a celeron cpu. The cheapest you can get the p4 2.8 800fsb (+$99) right now for with all their basic options is $448 ($348 after rebate). Just look for all the subtract options when customizing.

Biff,

might be a hot deal for those that need a no frills web browsing box... and to see the $249 you need to click on "Recommended Systems" first. The $250 is after a $100 rebate as well

basically for $250 you get:
1. dell case w/ power supply
2. decent motherboard
3. Celeron 2.4 128k cache
4. 128mb DDR ECC PC2700
5. 48x CDROM
6. 40gb HD
7. craptastic video

for about the same price I'd rather get a Dell AXIM PDA

ok, i figured it out.... i think its a good deal. if i take my 250gb hd, and video card out of my current system, get the p4 2.8, and then buy some RAM from someone else, itll be a hell-a-system for cheap...

basically 349.00 after MIR + price of RAM from someone else

thanks.. I didn't notice there was no price increase for selecting 256MB... this may be an even better deal... and apparently the motherboard is actually an 800MHZ FSB capable P4 board.. getting tempted...

i belive that it says that you are ineligible for the $100 rebate if you select the free memory upgrade

but the 256mb memory is not the upgrade in question... i dont think... there is another memory upgrade option that states that it invalidates the MIR

Depends on the processor. The 3.2Ghz one has a faster, louder fan. The rest are quieter than the 4550/4600.

Ok cool so a stock P4 2.8 without OC should be whisper quiet then?

This would make a nice cheap ghetto HTPC

When my 3.2 was stock, I couldn't hear it from ~2-3ft away. It only has the PSU fan and a large (120mm?) rear, temp-controlled fan, so it's quiet. I assume the 2.8 is on par with it. The catch, however, is the video card. Once you add one with a fan, the noise level rises. So, for HTPC, you would want to look into a fan-less HS. I seriously doubt, however, that you'd hear it anyway.

As always, RTFM

Appears to be true. 256MB DDR, ECC, 400MHz, 2x128MB option shown here, which does not indicate ineligibility for $100 Mail-In Rebate. System price remains $499.00, less the $150.00 instant savings.

I just upgraded the 2GHz Celeron in mine to a 3GHz P4 and it's still at the same very low noise level.

This really is a sweet system,I'd be happier (and it would cost Dell less) if it didn't have the clamshell case, but oh well.

Looks like the price has gone up to 299 after rebate for the celeron base version. HD upgrade is $20 less and processor upgrade also $20 less today but definitely cooler deal than the past week or two IMHO.

Cart shows both the rebate and 256mb of ram for me after I chose the ram option which didn't have a warning about the MIR not being valid, but I wonder if they'll honour it - it's probably an error...

How many IDE hard drives can this server hold, I'm thinking about picking one up, but will need to fit at least three harddrives in it. Ample space?

Ah. As at 11:30am the $100 MIR is now gone. 2.8 P4 is now a 'free' upgrade (effectively $99 like it was with the $100 rebate gone). So you can get the faster processor and 2x128mB ecc ram for $399. Not as hot as it was....

If the rebate was still there I'd buy it despite having absolutely no use for it. I hate hot deals.

For those that purchased during the most recent promotion period (400SC with 2.4GHz Celeron, 128MB DDR ECC 400MHz for $249 AR or similar, with upgrades), prior to the rebate purchase period ending the 400SC was offered with 256MB DDR ECC 400MHz of ram instead of the original 128MB at no additional cost.

Was successful in contacting Dell Small Business, and requesting an additional stick of 128MB DDR ECC 400MHz ram at no charge. Have the order configuration page (which is now no longer available as the mail-in rebate promotion has ended) saved, and the representative (including ID number and extension) I had the pleasure of speaking with at Dell Small Business. Both can be made available should anyone require such.
