Anyone have this problem before? : Ok so the only way I can stay online with my DSL is if i leave my phone line on. IE: Make a phone call, or just leave my phone connected to dial tone. Also... there is a really low low sounding new hiss in my phone line when i talk to someone. Has anyone ever encountered this problem? I'm in the 91803 area code. And this just happened to me yesterday. I have had great service for over 2 years.

Did you install the filters on all the phone lines other than the one that the modem is connected on?

hmm.... why would i need to do that? i have had good service for 2 years.. always connected. I'm just asking if anyone has had this problem recently. and are you in the same area as me?

I installed DSL for a family member like 2 years ago, and I distinctly remember having to install filters on all of the phoneline connections that the DSL modem was not connected to. I forgot the exact reasoning behind it, but I know I did it.

Yup, filter them phones. The isp usually provides the filters.

When I installed SBC Yahoo DSL for a friend they included 4 or 5 filters. Each filter had two jacks, one for phones and the other for DSL. Had to plug in all the phones and the computer to them.

guys, he said his service has been fine for 2 years! If he hasn't needed the microfilters on each extension, that probably means he has a big filter where the phone line enters the house and has a homerun line straight to the DSL modem. Maybe that filter blew up or just plain stopped working. You can ghetto rig a micro filter where the phoneline enters the house and see if that clears up the problem.

Have the phone company check your phonebox on your house. I had the same problem. Phone was fine then all of a sudden a loud buzz that could only be heard on my end. Phone company came out and had to install a new box. They said ours was pretty much trash.

come on guys.. read. I have had great service and i have not just installed this. I know what I'm doing, I know about dsl and the routing servers. This problem is unique and wierd. Just wondering if anyone has ever had the problem just happen. Like it works for 2.-3 years then 1 day. Bam.. modem works a different way. I have narrowed it down to 1 problem . The line. Has nothing to do with the modem. (tested with another modem exactly the same). I can only connect (Sync) if i make a phone call and my phone line is connected to another party. (Anyone calls me, It syncs.) Once i hang up the phone, thats it... no more sync. My ready light blinks. (not solid). Also, when im on the phone.. without the modem turned on.. I hear clearly.. Once i turn the modem on.. i get a faint static. When i turn it off.. clear signal. No its not the modem. i get static when it syncs in.

How exactly did you rule out the dsl filter being the problem?

Call your DSL provider. Often they will make "improvements" to their networks that can really hose things. Usually they are good about sending out notices but sometimes you fall through the cracks. Something has changed though, whether it's bad equipment or a service change, I would call the DSL provider.
