WTF AMD? No sound via HDMI

Purchased Mass effect Andromeda earlier this week, download it, attempt to run and says new AMD drivers are available. I download latest catalyst drivers for my RX480, reboot system, BAM! no sound. Check all settings and such and HDMI audio just doesnt show up. Did complete driver removal and clean install, no sound. Re-installed drivers from late December 2016 and sound is back but Andromeda bitches about the drivers being old but still runs fine. The newer drivers are just crap man. And I dont me no sound in the game, the whole system had no sound with the latest drivers.

I have the opposite issue. Every time I install drivers I have to go disable my two display port monitors because they become the default audio devices over my headphones

That said, its pretty hard to help you guys when you've offered almost no troubleshooting steps.

Did you do a clean install? Custom install? HDMI Drivers are a checkbox during install if you do custom.

I've had this same issue with various cards and various Catalyst driver revisions. It's a royal PITA when it happens.

It's possible (or at least, it used to be, before ReLive drivers) to selectively install one version for the audio, then a newer one for the video, by unchecking the HDMI drivers during install of the newer drivers.

It's also possible, to install older Cats with working audio, then newer Cats with non-working audio, then go to Device Manager, to the AMD HDMI Audio Device, and Roll Back the drivers to the working one.

Most likely a HDCP issue. Try using Ccleaner.

What version drivers? I'm usnig 17.5.2 and HDMI audio is working. As others said, did you do a clean install? If not then you should.

i thought that only applied to copy protection? blu rays and the like. would this be the case for total audio loss? even just playing an mp3 or an avi etc? if hdcp was needed but not working then surely there'd be no video either?

not being funny, i've had this audio prob with AMD/ATi in the past and am curious

I have the exact same issue on my work pc with nvidia drivers. Every time the nvidia driver updates, my default audio device is changed from speakers out to hdmi out on the monitor. Every time i have to change it back to what i had.

Yeah annoying, wish they wouldn't default on install!

Yeah, for some reason default settings are overridden every time. As if their construction of settings stored on the system is changed with every update and instead of using some importing feature, a clean slate is used.

This is still a pain in the ass issue. Tried the latest relive drivers and bam, LGTV HDMI sound kicks off (using my HDTV for my PC) I had to go back to 16.4 just to get HDMI sound again. I've tried clean uninstalls to no avail. Odd thing is if I install latest drivers fresh I will get sound until it tells me to reboot. Once rebooted no sound from hdmi until I install an older driver. Sucks.
