I've been interested in when this new Catalyst Media Center would be released, and have not been able to find information on when it will be released ANYWHERE - not ATI's site, or these forums, or any other forum. So as a last resort, I log in to my ATI account and submit a ticket. It basically says that my pending TV tuner purchase decision hinges on when this software will be released, as I don't want to use PowerCinema nor do I want to spend $90 on a dedicated PVR solution or use some free solution without an EPG.

I get an email back from them a few hours later explaining to me how to look up product specs on their website.

WTF - did they even read it before just randomly mailing back some pre-made response?

I think I'm going to sound a little frustrated in my response back.

I had a similar experience with netgear last week.

Is that actually happening?

They?re still separate companies at the moment, the deal doesn?t finalise for quite some time. Also they will probably still keep trading under their own seperate names, even when ATI have been fully taken over by AMD.

My response:

That response did not pertain to my question in the slightest. Please re-read my original request and respond appropriately.

You want them to just email you important private business decisions? Why don't you just email KFC for their secret chicken recipe?

You've never seen a canned response until you deal with a rebate company:

<Me> You said to wait 6-8 weeks, it's been 9. WTF?
<Rebateco> Wait 6-8 weeks.
<Me> I just said it's been 9.
<Rebateco> Wait 6-8 weeks.

They already have a page detailing the software AND claim that it's for the Theater 650 PRO chipset, which is supposed to have been released two months ago! I think they have some sort of obligation to let the customer know if this software is actually currently shipped with that tuner or not. Or at least say "coming soon" or something. The page doesn't even make it clear if the software IS currently available or not.

Actually AMD's announced they're dropping the ATI name.

Yes the ATI name will be dropped, but the ATI brands will not be.

Harsh, they're keeping the product names but dropping ATI's name.

Man, this blows. I hate ATI (bad, bad experiences) more than I like AMD...up to this point I have specificially bought AMD CPUs because I wanted to support competition in the industry. Now, if I hear one squeak of animosity between AMD and Nvidia, I'll have to jump back to Intel.
