In the past i normally use Nvidia for all my home gear and for work I dont have a choice and we use ATI. I have been trying to build a windows media center to convert my DVD's to AVI's and play them off of my XBOX and XBOX360. So I get a ATI 9250 PCI card because I am using an older Proliant server. I install the card but cant get the drivers to load. I first try the CD that came with the card and everytime I tried to install the drivers the machine would lock up. So i go to ATI's website and download their drivers (6.8) for Media Center and then try and load it up, but it says the card is not supported - WTF ATI? So I look at list of unsupported cards and the 9250 is on that list. I end up trying 5.3 for Media Center and I get the same message, again WTF ATI? I went back to previous version and they still wont load. I end up just using the Windows driver for that Radeon driver but that was a waste of time, the media files would not play and Media Center would give me an error every time it started up.
I ripped that stupid ATI card out of the server and went back to the store and swapped it with a Nvidia FX5200 PCI card. I installed it into the server and downloaded the LATEST version of NVIDIA's drivers and now everything works. I no longer get any errors and I am able to stream files to my XBOX and XBOX360 (using additional software of course) but I could not do this with an ATI card. I love NVIDIA and the fact that even if the card is old the newest drivers work and I dont have to spend hours and hours trying to find an old version that doesnt even work with a card that it is supposed to support.
WTF ATI? Thanks for wasting my time, i guess there was a reason why your cards are on sale...
