I have a gmail with my first and last name with a period in the middle. Someone else signed up and must have a letter of somewhere in it, because I constantly get his emails. He types it wrong or something and they end up coming to me. I got a receipt for a limo service once, and a uhaul service another time. I used to email the company back, telling them they have the wrong email and they might want to contact they guy.

Hell I had a realtor write me and ask me if I was still looking...replied back that I'm not the person she was looking for and she claimed it was sad that I didn't remember her. I live in Minnesota and she's a realtor in California...had to explain to her I've never even been to Cali and have never shopped for a house.

I just delete them now, and if I continue to get emails (like the ones from Apple he signed up for, and the ones from EASports where he keeps requesting his password) I just set up a rule to delete them automatically. It's fucking annoying.

This x1000000. I think about 15 people think my email address is theirs, or they are just too lazy to care. I get crap all of the time that isn't for me. I just setup filters and delete the rest. It's beyond annoying.

But if I register something.something@gmail and someone else registers somethingsomething wont they be getting my mail? Or vise versa?

Whoever registered it first will own the account. The next time someone else trying to create the other one it will say that the name is taken.

There's also some kind of bug as mentioned above that sometimes show up that although none of the two were registered, one of them will say that it's taken (which confuses people who knew about the rule, obviously). However it still doesn't matter, you can just register with the name it lets you (with or without the dot), and then as soon as you registered you can use both of them.
