Betcha they decided they couldn't afford to be a loss-leader in that respect and that people were just coming in for CPU's and getting other system components online.

Kinda funny how you looked at the same ones I did.

I7 750 $190 this one used to float from 150-160 back and forth

I7 920 $230 was always 199

Guess they missed the i860 as it's still the same 229

Still cheaper than Newegg. I'm with Powernick50 in thinking they just couldn't keep up that loss-leader forever. Still, they must have set some kind of record for the longest running "sale" ever!

WHEW!! I just picked up my i5 750 for $150 two weeks ago. The price jack doesn't surprise me though. I wouldn't buy anything else from them as their prices are far over what I could get online, I imagine lots of other people were abusing the low price in the same manner.

I'm glad this happened. Now i have zero reasons to drive to philly and buy anything from them.

because of anticipation of the new i3/i5 release?... seriously, who would buy the newer ones when you have better older ones for cheaper?
and then you have all the add ons such as motherboards with the hdmi connectors on them.

or maybe they just couldn't get as good a price anymore

They had that 920 D0 on sale for $199 so long and with so much publicity on this forum that any regular reader here who hadn't already bought one really didn't want one.

I bought a 920 D0 from them and I have and will buy other things from them again. Last thing I bought was a laser printer, which they price matched against a good Newegg price that had free shipping.

Another good recent experience, I misjudged some parts for a water loop I was building and found myself scrambing over the Microcenter on a Saturday to keep my project from being delayed several days. They didn't really have good prices on any of those parts, but the selection they had in STOCK was impressive. Decent quality, stuff you regularly read about on enthusiast boards. A decent selection of cooling parts means they have purchasing managers who are actually interested in the computer hobby. I know, it probably won't last....

Interestingly enough, some people don't have a Microcenter within several hundred miles of where they live. Yeah I'm sure they could have tried buying through someone who DID live near a Microcenter, but that's a different matter altogether.

True. The MC in philly is about an hour and a half drive down the Turnpike. The last time i was there the store was a fucking mess

Too bad they didn't price match on sales tax.

True, I should have been more specific. If you're weren't within a reasonable distance of the store for the $199 pickup price, then the deal was probably never reasonably available to you.

I was aiming the comment to people in my situation. I live very close to the store, but I was on the fence for months before I decided to buy.

If I was still looking to buy, I would just to wait for the 930. I might not get a sale price, but I would get the new features (higher stock speed, better turbo?) plus a first batch (better chance for golden o/c'r).
