It's funny, I've notice that the more "right wing" (the American definition) a user is, the more likely they are to not give a shit about Haiti around here. I wonder what Jesus would think of that.
I repressed my urges to travel down there and loot.
But honestly to put it in perspective 3 billion over say 12 years is 250 mil a year divided by 9 million ppl is $27 per person a year. Its hardly going to revolutionize there lifestyle overnight when you look at it like that.
Apparently my head was in the sand - I didn't even know there was an earthquake there till about 30 minutes ago
It is not the responsibility of the tax payers of the United States to revolutionize the lifestyle of the citizens of foreign countries.
I have no problem with what we are doing now to help. That doesn't mean we should ignore the cost. I think every dollar the US Government spends on this disaster should be deducted from what we pay to the UN. At best, it is an international crisis. It is not a US crisis.

Yet we have spent hundreds of billions and much of the last 10 years doing just that in the middle east. With no end in sight. :hmm::hmm::hmm:

I just donated to UNICEF. Why UNICEF?
- They're a four-star charity as rated by Charity Navigator. Red Cross is only 3-star!
- I'd heard of them. When I was very young I went trick-or-treating for them.
- They're not a religious charity. (Edit: Not that Red Cross is, but several other four-star charities are.)
Do you ever get tired of trying to turn every one of my posts in a NZ versus USA thing? Because I'm getting pretty bored with it.Its ok though, the mighty New Zealanders are probably donating their entire GDP to combat those dastardly backwards hicks, right?

According to the NCCS Table Wizard, there are currently over 1.5 million nonprofit organizations in the United States.
Seems like we are doing a great job at that.
