Smaller gas tanks is looking like a valid solution. Makes little sence(for most people) to have 12 gallons sitting around not getting used, and which are getting VERY costly to fill. I think for most average sedans, a 6-8 gallons tank is better than the 12-18 gal.

Gas in western canada is CAD 97.6 cents/litre.

That is the equivalent of US $2.67/gallon

I'm patting myself on the back right now for filling up my tank last weekend. I couldn't believe the price surge at this one Shell station here (NJ), just for regular: $1.61.. 1.67.. 1.74.. 1.89.. 1.91.. 1.92 today!

The pump I use went from 2.38 to 2.49, seasonal price inflation for summer coming up, will probably add atleast .30. I'm expecting to see 2.80 this summer.

I drive an easy 3000 miles a month for work. It's getting to the point where I cannot afford gas.

its not really opec..

we have an abundant suppy of crude oil..

the problem is the refineries to produce gas out of the oil... we dont have enough of those..
What do you mean it's not really OPEC?

Where do you think we get most of our oil? lol...

ehhh did u read the post where I said we dont have a supply problem of crude oil???
I still don't understand.

The US produces about 28% of the oil it needs. The rest must be imported.

We have no refinery shortage, I mean WTF? Unless there has been some national refinery chain meltdown that I don't know about or something, lol..

OPEC is in control of our oil.

Oil price is governed simply by supply and demand. If there really were no supply problem, then prices would be staying flat, if not going down.

However, they are rising. You think its a coincidence that the price of oil per barrel is also rising?

yes we do IMPORT our oil..

but do u ever wonder why gas prices in CA is so high compared to other states? A part of this reason is because of the refinery (or lack of) in CA.... Gas in CA is more difficult to make, since it needs to pass tougher emission regulations. This is what I mean by I hate the environmentalist.. Even if there is a huge supply of crude oil coming to CA (for instance, the federal oil reserve is opened), we still would not have enough gas for our cars... since we dont have enough refineries..

not only do we import raw crude, we import refined gasoline!

and in the last month two refineries in the US have had accidents leading to lots of production loss.

there is huge lack of refining overhead, refineries are running damn near peak already.

Hmmm.. Yes, that is some of the reason that gasoline is more expensive in CA, because of the tougher emissions standards.

But that is inheirent to the more refined gasoline, it isn't because there is a shortage of refineries, at least I don't think it is. If there were a shortage, they would build more. Gasoline has virtually always been above the national average in CA.

There are actually some refineries that just clsoed recently in CA... saw this on the news..
The reason was because it was not cost effective (old refineries)...
This, coupled with the fact that TWO other states will be using CA's tough emission standards in the summer = $3 a gallon in CA... and my guess is, its not gonna go down... people will have to change their lifestyle according to the gas prices..

Its at $1.89 here...and Charlotte is one of the cheapest big gas markets in the US (biggest cheapest is Atlanta.) Hell, I remember during one of the summers 4-5 years ago, a few of the gas stations nearby started a price war and gas was 76 cents (regular around that time was 98 cents.)
