I have a 2 GHZ AMD Athlon (i'm pretty sure), 1 GB Ram, XP Pro 32bit, with 10 Addons. right now it's using slightly less than 100 mb with 3 tabs. earlier it was up to around 200 mb ram.

That about what my older system is but it only has 512 MB of ram Really sucks but maybe sooner or later I will upgrade that ram to at least 1 GB, if it is even worth it. Anyway thanks for replying I really wish we could get to the bottom of this issue. It is driving me crazy how firefox works perfectly fine on one machine but not on the other. With the more powerful one having the problems. Sucks.

My main pc has 8 GB of ram I wouldn't care how much memory firefox used if it didn't slow down the rest of my system once it started using well over 900 MB to 1 GB + of ram. By the time it hits 1.1 to 1.5 GB of ram use firefox crashes. Guess because of the 2 GB 32 bit limit I don't know. Guess we all need a official 64 bit firefox soon so it can eat all 8 GB of people's ram.

That really sucks if true. Must try a 32 bit OS again on my main PC, if I feel like it, to see if this is really the case. I hope not because I am forced to go to a 64 bit OS because I have 8 GB of ram unless I want to use 4.5 GB of that for a ram drive.

yeah this new FF really sucks. I am using chrome now. Which isnt half as good but FF keeps crashing and locking up.

I went back to Firefox 3 sense at least that is secure still as well, for now. Hopefully they will iron out all the stability and bug issues with Firefox 3.5 by the time I am forced to upgrade on January 2010 Who knows maybe I will get a chance to sooner!

I'm thinking about doing the same. With firefox 3.5 the browser seems to stop responding and then respond again all the sudden when opening large pages, even after it's fully loaded. It does the same crap when I open a bunch of tabs. There's a few other things that cause it to pause like that too, with firefox 3 I never had any of these problems.

i'm always surprised when people complain about speed problems on Firefox... I have version 3.5 running on a P3-700 Mhz, a Celeron 800 Mhz and an AMD 3000+. it runs fine on all 3 machines....and I have 18 extensions on each of them.

try a complete uninstall of Firefox first and make sure you delete *ALL* Mozilla folders from your PC. then, reinstall Firefox and use it on "safe-mode" for a few hours, just to see if it still lags. if it doesn't, that means your previous install was borked.

however, if problem persists, you can try one of the custom compiled versions people put on the web. there might be one for 64 bit Windows.
