WTF is the point of the Toyota Camry commercials?

Most commercials give you a reason to buy their product....testimonials, show why the product is good, etc....this commercial does no such thing...

All commercials need to do these days is increase or maintain brand awareness. They want as many people to at least know that their product is a "name" in the category of product or service being advertised, and features, testimonials, specifications, etc can be taken care of via other media (mainly the internet now) or venues.

They try to evoke an emotion and hope it will subconsciously influence you the next time you leave the house.

Getting something cool that you never even thought about? Finding a hidden treasure? Any number of things. Some commercials act like a Rorschach, just throw random things out there that almost anyone can relate with.

The point of the commercial is to provide a subliminal message into your subconscious. Eventually in the future it will pay off for Toyota, and Madison Avenue will earn its dollar once more.

The messaging.
Is that the camary will surprise you with its unexpected luxury and kickass performance on the road for a low price that makes it affordable to young women starting out in the workforce.

Just like winning a for a few dollars a cheap storage unit and finding a treasure of a guitar played by the one and only BB King. An unexpected value above and beyond, this ain't your Fathers Camary.

The association happens in the subconcious. What will happen is one day you will visit your Local Toyota dealer and be compelled to buy that Camary you saw on the lot. You will not know what compelled you to buy that Camary.

Personally, I'd rather buy a Camry than some big ridiculous gas guzzling pickup truck I don't need.

Commercials don't sell me on cars at all. I look for bargains or loss leaders and work deals. Cars are a conveyance. Give me something spacious, fuel efficient, reliable and comfortable and I'm happy.

This just in... many commercials are completely pointless or fail to properly market the product.

I saw the a new Lincoln commercial with matthew mcconaughey today. He was in a diner, at night, waiting for the rain to stop for most of the commercial and then when it did stop he went and got in his car and opened the sun roof. Awesome!
