A lot of ATers (and angry internet denizens in general) are a) kids on limited budgets or b) angry adults who never grew out of that mindset.

It used to be that you should always pay more than what it's worth when it came to quality. You bought things that didn't do much more but cost extra because you believed in its build quality.

Today the focus has shifted to getting cheap, replaceable items as fast as possible.

The two paradigms conflict, and now we're sitting here in ATOT.

 to all of the above.

What's your point Rakehellion???

Yes MANY review websites are sponsored and swayed by profits....

Yes, I trust an internet troll over Anandtech, PC World, PC Mag and the measurements made by widely available tools. The entire stopwatch industry is corrupt.

Gold is worthless!

Also where is "performance vs $$$" category. Since Apple products cost arm and a leg, YES they BETTER be doing it better.

An i7-3960X has 50% more cores than a 3770K, so it costs 50% more, right?

How about "cost of upgrade" category? How much does Apple charge for DDR3 memory or Battery compare to other makers.

Google it, dumbass. They charge big, round numbers for memory upgrades just like every OEM.

IPS screen, metal chassis, battery life, lightweight.

Build me a PC notebook that has all these for less? Your high end ASUS or Alienware laptops don't even come with IPS screens.

Battery life... argue it all you want, but the closed system helps here. Optimize software for hardware and you can max out the battery life.

Foxconn motherboard...

Oh wait who here would voluntarily use a Foxconn motherboard in any system they were building? Apple puts all the nice hardware on the outside, the inside is garbage. Fortunately for Apple most people don't know the difference between quality internals and garbage.

Does Foxconn make Macs have higher failure rates than other computers? Or do you just want an ASUS board for the fancy blue plastic and shiny LEDs?

People who want macs are not the type of people who think too much about price/performance efficiency.

I can source identical hardware that is in a Mac (right down to the mobo, keyboard etc) and build a PC equivalent, for £400 less than their cheapest brand, the only difference being the case. Infact, I did this about 2 years ago, stuck OSX Snow Leopard on it, and it worked without issue.

Software is just a highly stylised version of unix.

*edit*

I like Apple software, as for design it makes efficient use of the hardware, however for games and everything else, it loses its ability to hold up against a PC

By 'everything else', you still mean only games.

Yeah theres not enough people here who had Econ 101/102.

In a free market the customer decides what they want to pay and the producer has to make it work with that price.

No everything else covers

Games
Music Editing
Video Editing
Streaming
Screen video capturing (anything above 15fps and the Macs can't handle it)
CAD
CAM
Various finance packages (Sage etc)

They only sell for that much since the computer illiterate buy macs. Nobody who knows anything about computers would pay that much for them.

I love used Mac prices. I have made quite a bit of coin on the eagerness of Apple users.

Pretty much anything Apple (Macs, iPads, iPhones, iPods) is a good source of coin.

As far as what I use day-to-day, I prefer Windows 7 and Android.

An Apple thread isn't complete without a jpeyton post! :awe:
