I get people coming to the door all the time when they see my Mezuzah . At this rate I should put a sign on the door "I am a jewish and I dont care if you think i am going to hell."

Oh God... I hate this "IT'S ALL ABOUT JESUS" this, JESUS that. They are making a mockery of Christianity. These are for sheperd idiots who preach JESUS JESUS all day without truly being connected with the church, religion, and community. Hint to those who go to sheperd churches: if your church is asking you to pay 10%-15% of your income to them, or other idiotic things like having big signs and ads about JESUS, it's a BS church, and you should really get out ASAP. I go to a Greek Orthodox church, St. Nicholas, and have been going all my life. Giving pledges are optional, but we give money every week since we're part of the church and want it to stay traditional and holy, not ruin the religion with JESUS advertisements and bumper stickers.

Uh oh - we're going to talk about God now, aren't we? 'Cause if we are, I'm going to need another drink.

(Whenever I see discussions on religion, I feel they deserve qutes from "Red Planet"; a movie nobody seemed to like except me.)

Faith? Oh, I had a girlfriend named Faith. She cheated on me, with a girl named Chastity.

I realized science couldn't answer any of the really interesting questions. So, I turneed to philosophy. Been searching for God ever since.

OP:

yeah i feel ya. im a christian myself, living in califonia. it always frustrates me too when i see some christians saying something like "youre going to hell if you dont act now" or something along those lines. NOT the right way to show people jesus. scare tactics just dont work, and actually do harm...being a friendly loving person does help though.

Just for the record, you are wrong, they add a bunch of crap that is not in the king james version. that is why they are not christian.... Anyways, I agree, I would have had some fun with that loser though

yeah, i lived in the South and got that several tiems a year. Just don't answer the door and they will go away. Also sometimes had street preachers downtown yelling at traffic about them all going to hell, and you jsut look the other way and pretend they arent there. But anyway, I eally like the South, and think having a population of people that actually prractice Christianity is not a bad thing, but of coruse there are always the people who take it too far and just dont get it.

Maybe you should edit your title. I have lived in the south for the last 15 years.... never had anyone other than mormons (twice in those 15 years) come to the door and bother me.

just for clarificaition, Valdosta is geographically in south Georgia, but its not really that southern anymore.

On another note, I live in Georgia also, and I cannot recall the last time that someone came to my house about religion.

I do have the cops come out and the pretty much drives me to religion, but i'm starting to get used to them.

YEEEHAWW!!!!!!

Now I'm a christian so I'm polite tell them I go to church etc whatever.

Today some A-hole comes by and asks me where I go to church and then invites me to HIS church. We talk for a minute and he asks me "If you die today which would it be heaven or hell?" I say heaven and he says really? I say yeah, no one's perfect, if you have to be perfect we're all going to hell. He says "Well I want you to have this" hands me a card and walks off. No biggie they always pass something out.

My first thought was go out and find the a-hole and give him what for. I then realize that will do no good since he's obviously only a mindless sheep. Before I call and b!tch I want to know would you be as offended as I am? The implication is that the devil has me and if I don't go there I am going to hell.

Not only is this the crap that gives christians bad names it's rediculous to be handing out to anyone. "Hello, are you having a good day? You're going to hell if you don't worship with us, are you scared yet?" I have no problem with people inviting you to church and all that but this is plain rude. Way to go christians.
Translation: some idiots who believe in a magical magician in the sky came to my house and spouted dumbass crap.

Nothing to see here, just ignore them as best you can and concentrate on people with mentailities this side of the millenium. If you worry about the religious, you'll be joining them in wasting your life away.

I'd ignore them completely if they didn't impose on my life. Unfortunately, they have a habit of being very vocal. It's like the idiot in the back of the class who always shouts crap/disrupts everyone and slows down the progress of the entire class...

Your complaint is not with either Southerners or Christians.
Your complaint is with Evangelical Calvinist Christians.

Just for the record, I'm not wrong. Perhaps you would like to specifiy some of the "bunch of crap that is not in the king james version"? As for why they are not considered Christian, it has much more to do with their teaching on Christ that most people do not consider them Christian, it has nothing to do with the version of the Bible they use. Otherwise, there would be several other denominations guilty of the same thing.

I always had good luck with the evangelists. If it was really hot outside I'd give 'em a glass of water or something, and just let 'em know that I appreciated their concern but my soul was fine, and I considered my religion a private matter -- and would appreciate if they'd do the same. Normally I didn't allow them in, but would sit with 'em on the porch. A couple of times I had guys want to tear into me, but then I could point out I'd offered hospitality and courtesy, and if they couldn't behave politely they should leave. That always worked for me, anyhow.

actually it depends. you make it sounds like everything is the same for everyone in this kind of situation where someone invites you to worship.

sounds like you can't get a hold of yourself because someone was offering their religion to you in a different manner you thought wasn't respectful enough.

but I'll say that if people were talking like this to me, I wouldn't let them into the house.

I'd actually just talk to them at my doorstep until I feel I've heard enough or would request where I can learn more if I was really interested.

you never know though... there are nice people out there, or there can be terribly-ill minded people out there. gotta use those reflexes to really figure out if certain people are good for being on your visit-me list.

I have plenty of stuff left to scare them away. Oddly, I never saw any Jehova's witnesses anymore (they used to 'visit' at least once a week) when I took a big bite out of a cow heart that I was actually preparing for my cats . Thank God they let themselves out and didn't see that I didn't actually swallow .

Here is how I handle that situation:

Christian knocks on door

I answer door with an immediate "Is this about Jesus?"

Christian says "Yes, blah blah gospel blah blah heaven blah blah"

I say good by and close the door
