Mitt Romney: Paul Ryan Budget Is Not His, Candidate 'Putting Together His Own'

Within minutes of tapping Paul Ryan as his vice presidential nominee, presumptive Republican nominee Mitt Romney was distancing himself from the congressman's controversial budget, which includes steep cuts to government programs and changing Medicare into a voucher-like program.

The Romney campaign sent out talking points on Saturday that made the case that he was his own man on matters of Medicare and Social Security and that he wouldn't be tied to a document he insisted he'd sign into law and once called "marvelous."

It took less than a DAY for Romney to flip flop on the Ryan budget.

I guess the righties here didn't get the memo.

I don't get why he picked him for VP, then. That is Ryan's calling card, might as well picked some other multi-term congressman from a swing state.

You're right. I bet Romney didn't even know about the Paul Ryan budget until after announcing him.

Dammit. Just this morning I pointed that out as one of the two issues Romney has not flip-flopped on in the last two years or so he has been stumping, and then he goes and pulls another Willard.

BTW the sole remaining issue Romney remains steadfast on is his refusal to release his personal income tax returns.

Because Representative Ryan has learned much from the current grand master of the flip flop...

You know from an objective standpoint the stance that Romney has allegedly "flip-flopped" on does not have two mutually-exclusive options. His prior statement was something to the effect of "Ryan's budget is great and, if elected President, I would sign it" and his new statement is to the effect of "Just because Ryan is on the ticket does not mean we are committed to his budget". As an elected Executive who cannot directly pass a budget there is an important distinction between a budget you would sign if it were put in front of you and a budget you would try to advance yourself.

Romney reminds me so much of Howard Stern, STRANGELY FASCINATING, you listen to him because you can't ever tell what he's going to say next. I'm loving this.

Except he demanded the same of Ted Kennedy way back when. It's an historical flip flop.

dude, the guy is an asshole. Rich beyond imagination but yet would sell his mom out in a heart beat if that got him what he wanted. Seriously, he is comical with his flip flopping. My 6 year old son is way better than him with sticking to his issues.

Do you have links to him selling people out? I can show Obama doing that quite easily, but have yet to see links to Romney doing it.

Yours is the first post in this thread that doesn't relate to the topic at hand. What "loonie (sic) conspiracies" are you talking about?

Romney now says he mispoke and supports the Ryan Budget plan.

Nah, but admit it, you believed it.

A metaphor is a literary figure of speech that describes a subject by asserting that it is, on some point of comparison, the same as another otherwise unrelated object. Metaphor is a type of analogy and is closely related to other rhetorical figures of speech that achieve their effects via association, comparison or resemblance including allegory, hyperbole, and simile.

You must have missed this post then:

Returners = Birthers. Both hold loonie conspiracies of evil doing. The like to link everything to their loonie conspiracy.

So he's going to anger conservatives by not supporting it, but still get hammered by Dems and even the media for it just due to Ryan on the ticket?

This man is a genius ...

What the fuck is the difference between the ryan taxing and spending plan and what Romney says he wants?

I'd really like to know what the fucking issue is here... because ryan's plan cuts not more than a meager 2bn a year from Medicare and it doesn't reduce military spending. It doesn't abolish any cabinet posts either even though all of them are useless.

Obviously its a nutty comparison, because on one hand you have a circumstance where Romney is the only major party Presidential nominee other than McCain to not give out more tax info since 1980, while the birthers made claims about Obama in spite of the overwhelming evidence to the contrary and consistently make demands for records essentially no other Presidential candidate in history has provided.

Obama's citizenship was settled to reasonable thoughtful people who researched the issue the moment Hawaii's Republican governor of Hawaii at the time and her office certified they had such records on top of the other clear evidence already existing at the time. (Although Obama then had Hawaii release his short form birth certificate prior to the election, which was what Hawaii would release in response to such requests, to further completely settle the issue to reasonable people who examined the issue.)

By contrast, there is simply no explanation for Romney refusing to release more tax returns, with this first becoming an issue in the Republican primary, which is effectively not damaging to Romney to some degree. The realistic scenarios clearly have him at a minimum using tax loopholes aggressively to maintain a fairly low tax bill percentage especially given his income. Even an arguably absolutely best case scenario where the tax records really don't have anything damaging but Romney is simply being stubborn for the heck of it about releasing any more strongly implies that a Romney presidential administration is going to be extremely secretive and lack transparency.

So you honestly think Romney is cheating on his income tax returns and the IRS has been unable to notice it - but returners can? It is loonie for returners to think such things, but they do anyway.

We all know Romney is following the tax code, so we can all make a pretty reasonable idea as to what percentage he is paying on the various types of money he earns. Yet, even already knowing this, you demand the exact rounded to the nearest dollar amounts for some strange reason. That falls squarely into the loonie conspiracy category.

The Obama administration is quite opaque as it is, so claiming Romney would not be transparent is meaningless.

Obama also refuses to show his transcripts. I lump transcripters into the same loonie category as birthers and returners...since they all demand stupid things that do not matter.

Romney is not going to release his returns for a long time, simple because it keeps the loonie returners occupied with something stupid. When occupied in such a way, they do not bother looking for anything real to hit him on. Same problem the loonie birthers had.

There simply is no legitimate reason for needing the exact numbers.
