Texas should go a step forward and make it a requirement for colleges in the state (or otherwise loose their certification of running the college), to require students to take a semester on religion and god. This wouldstop this insanity of adults starting mass shootings as belif in religion would be back.
Ah yes. I always forget that about history. That no one got killed when religion was really popular!

That actually is a fact. Even liberal Democrat mayor of NYC has said "When we took prayers out of our schools, gun came to our schools." So even Democrats agree that we need to bring back school prayer.

Prayer in schools was ruled unconstitutional in 1962 and 1963, gun violence in schools started in 1999. The two are completely unrelated.

Take your bull shit back to whatever hole you crawled out from under you stupid peace of shit.

Gun violence at schools started before that (there was Charles...Whitman or whomever in the clock tower in like the 60s or 70s, there was some girl that shot the school across from her house in the 80s, and I'm pretty sure there were others). Hell there was some ratfuck that blew up a school in like the fucking 1920s.

Isn't it weird how many of them involve angry white men that don't even understand their rage but still decide the best way to deal with it is to murder people?

Then again, I could agree with the argument that Jesus isn't taught in schools, especially religious schools where instead they're being taught to worship politicians and hate people for race/gender/sexual orientation/etc and other crap that Jesus in the bible explicitly does not support.

Many here in New York City no longer consider Adams as a Democrat, we have started to consider him as a DINO(Democrat In Name Only). So the so called proof you provided really means nothing.

This is just another way for many politically corrupted religious conservatives, of whom represent a major segment of the Republican party, are again attempting to exploit religion as a means to indoctrinate the state's children into the fold of that party.

Get'um while they're young and harden their emotions toward a disingenuous politically influenced Christian belief system that teaches them that if you are a Christian then you must also be a Republican. Most of all, they will enshrine within the children's minds that "There is no separating the Republican party and the Christian Churches because "they are one and the same."

If there is the devil inside of the Church, it's their politically corrupt members who are his agents.

'It's fact.'
'That's actually a fact'
'It's not ____, it's a fact.'
'I'm just stating facts.'

You can't redefine what a 'fact' is based on your feels (or trolling), and expect to not get shredded. Fuck off with that nonsense, comrade.

Name one other Democrat that agrees with Adams, who isn't liberal.

So "even" the very-right-wing mayor from a pretty-right-wing-party agrees?

It's clearly nuts as a suggestion - look at the violence in countries like Afghanistan or Pakistan, where religious education is absolutely the norm. Look at a thousand years of European history, where religion and violence went hand-in-hand.

But then you aren't even pretending to be rational, I guess. Pure trolling.

Those advocating religion be mandatory in schools I have another pesky question.

These same people claim our rights are granted by God. If so why did God exclude black people when establishing those rights?

That leaves one of 2 possible answers. God doesn’t respect black people. Or rights were created by man who intentionally excluded black people because they needed free labor to build this country.

I’m open to other possibilities.

There was that time when god got all pissy and decided to wipe out just about every living thing. That’s part of the Republican platform. If god had been a liberal, we could be riding dinosaurs right now.

-Right on, why is anybody trying to pretend God has to like black people or women or whatever when the same god is a straight up psycho in the old testament?

Christianity is about appeasing this vengeful psychopath so he doesn't genocide again, it's not about Love (TM) or anything else.

Always seemed to me that rights are, in practice, a consequence of the distribution of power in a given society. They are neither granted by God nor rationally derived from 'a state of nature' - things seem to get labelled as a 'right' if they benefit those with power in any given context, and not otherwise. Or at least if they don't adversely affect the powerful.

Maybe I'm wrong - I don't know how to square that with the (almost) instinctive sense people seem to have regarding what is 'fair' or 'just' (I gather that chimpanzees and dogs have been claimed to display notions of 'fairness').

But that reaction is often very-obviously affected by socialization and biases that are a consequence of the uneven distribution of power in society.

Maybe it's a combination of an evolved instinct and the effect of power? "God" solves absolutely nothing - people just pick the God that gives them the results they want.

Exactly. Rights are derived from the society of which enforces them. A person living outside of society with no interaction of any society is free to do as they please. However, when that person interacts with such an organization of people, they then become beholden to the ways of that society. A baseline of morals, while not limited to what society says is moral/immoral, is set by the general consensus of a society. There is no god given rights/morals nor are they natural or automatic.

And even then, they still have to twist the "word of god" to suit their needs. Plenty of people from every denomination on earth do it.

Yeah I say "pick", but I guess I really mean "construct" or "invent". Pick from the pantheon of all possible imaginable Gods.

There were a lot of school shootings before Columbine too, Columbine just had a high enough body count that it finally got people's attention. It also got more attention because of claims that they were atheists and they killed kids for believing in religion. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_school_shootings_in_the_United_States_(before_2000)#1990s

Maybe we should do what Germany or Russia do and greatly restrict guns?
