My daughter on her own has started sitting during the pledge in her middle school. The kid who sits behind her has so far asked her if she is a communist and why does she hate freedom.

We are discovering the people in our ruralish community are dumb as fuck.

Did you give her help on how to respond? Or ask her what her response was or how she wished she responded?

They started doing the pledge again when I was in high school after 9/11 happened, I refused to do it because people were already beating the war drums to go after Iraq. No one really said anything to me, thought they did it when I had PE so most people were just changing and not really paying attention.

Crazy, maybe that's where Hitler got the idea from.

The Nazis did get their ideas from the US. However, I think the Pledge of Allegiance as part of normal ritual in schools was actually in response to the rise of the Nazis, basically the US worried that if we didn't counter brainwash our people it would make us vulnerable to losing to others that would.

The under god shit wasn't added until the 50s because of the far right was attempting to fully demonize socialism and communism.

Nothing says freedom like forcing kids to pledge allegiance to this country under threat of punishment.

Literally threat of arrest. That's the definition of fascism.

And I want to remind people, these people have always been this way. Its just that their insanity normally gets them looked at funnily so they keep it under wraps, but it shows up a lot, and then becomes religious zealotry when given opportunity to flourish.

I was in 2nd grade when Mrs. Roseman with tears in her eyes said she could no longer read from the bible anymore. This was in 62'. I remember, great, now I only get it on Sunday.

The Satanic Temple has already offered its own chaplains to run after school programs and offer counseling services. Because the government can't play favorites with religions, of course

Here's one example.

I saw that early today. It takes a strong person to realize you were wrong and to accept the evidence in front of you. She was in a cult and she got out. We need more people like her who are willing to not only question their beliefs but to accept the findings, no matter how difficult it might be to accept. Sadly, that’s not a trait most humans exhibit.

Face, meet leopard. I guess a realization come late is better than none at all. Not surprised by the indifference or pushback by her fellow state party members. It's Texas, afterall. It's all about the narrative, not the actual legitimacy of the content.

I mean, Courtney Gore eventually found out where the indoctrination was happening. So good for her.

And for those too lazy to read the article, she was brainwashed into believing Da Libs were indoctrinating school children into some crazy wacky stuff.

After she investigated, she found the indoctrination was happening in the conservative media, conservative politicians, and churches.

The problem is, for every Courtney Gore that educated themselves, there's 10,000 more conservative bible thumpers indoctrinated into the belief of some liberal boogeyman. To the point of threat of physical violence if she didn't comply.

Never dawned on her to look into that shit BEFORE running on it? Just like Glen Youngkin tricking all those paranoid white suburban women that CRT was invading their schools when he knew it wasn't true.

Normally I would say if you are authentic resign from the board but another whack job would just replace her. Maybe she can fix the rotten Pubs from the inside.

Hey, I'm just happy that she changed her mind. It's very hard to get someone to shake a fiercely held ideology, especially if there's a peer group trying to silence dissent.

And you're right... she doesn't dare leave voluntarily, because the party will just try to install a loyalist.

While I’m sure this lady still holds plenty of positions I would find horrible, elected officials who actually care about their policy, do the work to understand it, and then change their mind when the evidence tells them things they don’t want to hear are exactly the sort of people we want in government.
