Just as the title says. I'm going to be in Calgary next week (24th through 30th) and was wondering what I shouldn't miss. Will be working during the day, so I can hit up the cool places at night and maybe saturday morning. I'll be staying in Park Hill.

EDIT: Landed last night. Nothing too interesting for dinner, but went to Ceasars steakhouse for dinner today. Damn, that was a good t-bone. The cheese/garlic breadsticks were awesome, as well.

Had myself some canadian molson and came back with some molson canadian cold shots. Now, the other thing. Cigars. Where can I get myself some cuban cigars? Preferably from a store that doesn't have humidor, cigar, pipe, etc in its name.

Go ahead and change the title to "WTF to do in Canada?" As there isnt much to do in ALL of canada let alone Calgary.

I heard the strippers are good, but I'll be with female coworkers. Maybe I'll just do some drinking and buy maple syrup.

Go to Drumheller. Go to Banff.

Both are somewhat difficult to do on workdays but really are the best features of Calgary.

The Calgary Zoo is also excellent. I prefer it to the San Diego Zoo, TBH.

Only neat thing that has ever happened in Calgary was a total solar eclipse in 1979.

And I guess skiing.

Not that I should talk, I live in Minnesota.

Banaff is beautiful, also if you have a car you can make a 2-3hr drive north to the Jasper National Park you can see the ice fields. On the way there you can also stop at Lake Louise (i think thats the name of it) which, I've been told is one of the most photographed lakes in the world.

Second that. Also because of the oil money in Calgary it has the best call girls and stripes in all of Canada.

Go to Drumheller. Go to Banff.

This. Remember them both from family vacations as a child. Lake Louise is also a must-see.

Unfortunately you missed the Stampede, which was earlier this month. For kids, it's good old-fashioned entertainment - rodeo, chuckwagon races, etc. For adults it's a friggin' orgy. Seriously, there is a noticeable rise in the birth rate exactly 9 months after the Stampede is over .

Damn, I was almost shipped off there to work again at a time that would have overlapped.

There are some good restaurants that I've explored on my last few work trips. Bonterra Trattoria was really nice, albeit kinda pricey.

You missed the fun that was last week, women throw themselves as any guy who wears a cowboy hat. I feel Canmore is much better then Banff as it's nowhere near as commercialized and it's only 40 minutes from Calgary. Calgary in itself is not much sightseeing wise, go to 17th ave at night and grab a few beers and enjoy some alberta beef. There are a few hot spots.

You will hate the strip clubs, Alberta has a rule where there's no touching allowed. It's litterally people chucking loonies at naked chicks on the stage. If that's your thing, go right ahead. Here I'll join up with you and we'll get some beers, then I'll show your female coworkers some western hospitality .

Check a Mall for one of these stores. Can't really help you with finding a Mall, but most large ones will have one of these in it. Also not sure of their selection as I never buy cigars.

there are a lot of microbreweries in Alberta. You should start trying some out.

grab a phone-book and look for smoke shops or cigar stores. Keep in mind Cuban cigars sold for retail must be inspected and taxed by customs before they're sold. That means much higher prices. Cohibas can be as much as $80/cigar and boxes approaching $1500. All prices CDN.

Check out the Metropolitan Grill on 17th. Kinda little hole in the wall place with super hot young slutty chicks always working there. I suggest the Black and Blue burgar. You might spot a celebrity there every now and then - once when I was there Chuck Liddell walked in with two smoking hot babes in each arm. Dude is intimidating.

Also, this weekend is the "Big Valley Jamborie" in Camrose, Alberta. Its about a three hour drive from Calgary, but it is known as the #1 event to get laid at in north america (even more so than the Calgary Stampede believe it or not). Basically a town of 16000 explodes to 60000 with people camping in fields, getting drunk, getting high, screwing and watching country music bands. Not really my thing, but hey, easy cowgirls ftw? You will have no luck finding a hotel within 100km though.

Zigarren is the best place to buy Cuban cigarettes in the south Calgary. It's a largest store where you can find good selection of Cuban cigars.

I suspect at some point during the 8 years since this post, said Cuban cigars were found.
