Apparently Fred Phelps is going to picket the funerals.

Where did you hear that?

bring it:

As of April 2006, at least 17 states have banned protests near funeral sites immediately before and after ceremonies, or are considering it. These are: Illinois,[49][50] Indiana,[51] Iowa,[52] Kansas,[53] Kentucky,[54] Louisiana,[55] Maryland,[56]Michigan,[57] Missouri,[58] which passed the law, and Nebraska, Ohio, Oklahoma,[59] South Carolina,[60] South Dakota, Texas, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, and Wisconsin.[61] Florida increased the penalty for disturbing military funerals, amending a previous ban on the disruption of lawful assembly.[62]

GOD, this is awesome.

I assume he yawned at the number of people killed in Iraq.

"10,000 and counting? LAME!"

Seriously, it's not funny.

What the guy was is what he was. The blame game will be played later. Right now I cannot understand how so many people are saying "I hope he wasn't X or did X" because they are afraid if the shooter did it will somehow mess with their lives. Over 32 people are dead. I don't really think anyone gives a fvck if you can play your online games or not right now.

But yea, that said I think there's a lot of things you won't think of doing that quickly, especially when it's just 1 shooter. If it was 3 terrorists trying to mess things up big time, I think you'd get a pretty quick closure.

No offense but that's a terrible idea. People hear sirens they've been told means one thing and they're going to react to that. Would it make sense to set off fire alarms for someone shooting up the school?

It would be good to have an alarm/warning system that specifically took situations like this into consideration, but I don't know of hardly anywhere that does, and I can guarantee most schools don't.

Some people tend to immediately think of the long-term consequences immediately. Don't accuse others because you are short sighted.

From a comment here

A mother on Fox, says she received a call from her daughter, who told her she was ok, that the police said that someone had been killed, but the school wasn?t on lockdown. The mother told her to lock the door.

The mother said the kids were allowed to walk around campus. The mother is a former FBI agent, who called and told the campus officials to lockdown the campus, with a shooter on campus.

Doesn't make sense... it would mean he had his gun with him when he went to visit his gf on campus. Also, the way he went about it... it seemed like he planned everything out -- the various clips, the vest... etc

Lives certainly matter, but you should not be just thinking of the moment. Are your future liberties not important?

Probably had the gun in his room and went back to get it? Or maybe it was planned; since he had already broken up with his GF, maybe he knew about the new guy?

Regarding the "various clips, the vest," there was a few hours between the first shooting (of the supposed GF and her new BF) and the rampage. He probably killed them both, felt like he had nothing to live for, grabbed his clips and vest, and went crazy.

Yep. I don't think he'd be casually carrying around two 9mms on campus. Plus, crimes of passion don't usually turn into a mass killing.

NPR
?What happened today this was ridiculous,? student Jason Piatt told CNN. He said the first warning from the university of a shooting on campus came in an e-mail about two hours after the first deadly burst of gunfire. ?While they?re sending out that e-mail, 22 more people got killed,? Piatt said.

My ability to play a video game on 04/16/2007 is not as important as this overall situation, no. Don't confuse your selfishness with being forward-thinking.

Of course future liberties are important, but let the news get finalized before you start speculating about what could happen to *your* personal rights and liberties. People died. Think of them for a bit.

It's just too soon.

I wonder if Colleges will start having those rapid notification systems? They have them at the High Schools here so they can notify parents of closures, accidents, bad weather, or emgergencies. Some of the districts here have 20K+ students, so I can imagine that's a lot of people to contact. They claim these systems can send over 20k text messages and make 20k phone calls in like 5 minutes

That would have saved a lot of lives.
