I do not want to believe that you are that ignorant.

Ok then, show me the law that says that the university has to provide a warning to the entire student body that one student has been murdered. Or has to shut down the school. Or is ultimately responsible for the safety of the student body.

I honestly want to know, but people are acting like retards and wont answer.

First off, it was two people killed and not one. Secondly, I think you are missing a big chunk of common sense here. Of course a University has a legal obligation to protect the students. Read their Charter. Look into the Morrill Act that setup land grant Universities.

It really seemed like they were trying to find blame in VT for not preventing this from happening. I don't see what they could have done differently with what they knew at the time. The guy obviously was screwed up in the head.

This is American politics and media at its worst: always trying to find a scapegoat to justify ill-logic.

Yeah the media is definetely going batsh1t retarded trying to pin this on someone so early.

Then the key question is, what is their responsibility to the students? Apparently they informed students when a man got on campus last year (prison escapee) who shot an officer, does that not set a precedent for what should have been done today?

Nobody just snaps. This has been building up and this just happen to be the day in which he executed his plan. This turd was well prepared with guns and plenty of ammo to spare.

What a tremendous tragedy! And as it appears now, much of it could have been prevented early on!

Leave it to many of the posters here to turn this into a big dick contest. So typical of whats happened here over the past 6-7 years! Give it a break folks, there are members of this community who are directly affected by this and don't need to be wading thru all this bickering to find info they may need right now!

Pretty tough thing when someone wakes up and decides this is the day to die and take out as many with him as possible in the process.

This can happen anywhere anytime regardless of so called "gun control" or any other nanny state "safegaurds".

This nutjob "infringed" on all of Americans rights today just as the 911 hijackers did their day but in the end we will still be "Free" Americans, don't let the occasional nutjob ever have a chance of taking that away.

Not that's it's terribly useful to point fingers at this point, but most universities seem to have too many employees driving around in golf carts handing out parking tickets and not enough real cops carrying weapons.

FWIW, not trying to start anything, but that is certainly true of Tech. I was parked on campus once for no more than 5 minutes (helped a friend bring some stuff to her room really quick) and I got a ticket.

That is typical for almost every university campus I've been to. Revenue generation is important.

I think this tragedy might change that.

Holy crap, finally someone answered my question instead of just calling me a retard. Looking it up, thanks.

Edit - Ok, just read both Morril acts, and VT was included in the act but I saw nothing about protection of students.

CNN has an interview with the guy who shot the infamous cell phone video.

The guy is a Palestinian/Saudi Arabian; good to see a friendly Middle Eastern face on the TV, instead of the usual insurgents.

ASU cops carry guns. but of course, they are a real police dept, not a security company.

University of Chicago Police carry guns as well, but they have been given police powers by the state. They patrol not just the University campus, but another 20 or so blocks around the campus. Though, they cannot issue parking tickets for cars on the streets, only the CPD can do that.

Lots of campuses have armed guards. It's the ratio of guards to meter maids that's alarming.

All of the campus police here are fully armed that I have seen except for the rare kid that helps out on Football days. The amount of police here was insane. Like I said in my big post 2 of them came out of no where and tackled this guy.

Here at UAB our Campus Police are armed. Campus Security and Meter Maids? Not so much.

my take on the sequence of events...

Option A: dude shows up early in the morning at his girlfriend's dorm room, unexpectedly finds her in bed with another guy. flies into a rage and shoots them both to death. he then flees the scene and goes back to his off-campus apt. (can't keep guns/ammo on campus) where he goes totally over the edge and decides to take as many people as possible with him so grabs all his clips, ammo, etc, and another pistol and heads back to campus. He is probably an engineering major or had classes in Norris or the guy sleeping with his GF was an engineering student so he heads there to conduct his murderous rampage before committing suicide.

Option B: he knows about the cheating and shows up loaded up already. kills gf & guy, then sneaks around campus making his way to Norris for whatever reason.

Option C: shooter at the dorm and shooter at norris are two different people who went on coincidental killing sprees (i think unlikely)

terrible terrible incident i just find it incomprehensible that someone would attack so many innocent people

One complete side of campus is locked down with cops, I just had a cop with a loaded shotgun walk into my class and tell us to stay put.

GOD, this is awesome.

Grow up.

I believe he was being sarcastic

He didn't shoot the GF 'to death', she died of her wound(s) in hospital. Also need to work the RA in there that was trying to break it up.
