I'm not trying to get out of the test, and would have gladly failed everything to keep 33 people alive, but I can't help but wonder. I hope you wont think less of me for wondering such a thing

I am so afraid of what will happen when they release the names tomorrow. There could be people I forgot etc...

I think it should be closed for the week. It's only going to get worse. The school really needs to get its act together. What have they done since the bomb threats even before this tragedy occurred? What have they done since last August? I haven't seen anything that would suggest that security at campus has increased since then.

Definitely true, but he will have a nasty case of survivor's guilt. What a horrible situation for the poor kid.

Interested to know what if any conversation took place prior or during the shootings, whether anybody he fired upon were his friends or enemies or had a grudge on.

Does either building have security cameras either in the hallway, at entrance ways, or in the rooms?

Also interested to review all the cellphones of the deceased to see if any photos or video clips were taken prior to the shooting, or anything that may tie some of the victims to the shooter and tell a better story.

During the morning conference update, they mentioned the same weapon used at both sites but didn't state it was tied to the same person. Would fingerprints not clarify that?

Classrooms vary in size from building to building, but IIRC Norris rooms were long and rectangular, about 20' by 40'. If someone is shooting at you, are you going to get a positive ID, or are you going to try to stay safe?
No there are not security cameras in the buildings.

I haven't kept up with this thread, so sorry if this has already been said. But everything I've been reading and seeing, these reporters keep questioning whether or not school should have been shut down after the first shootings at the dorm. I cringe at the manhunt that will insue in the coming weeks against school officials. I guarantee the media will not stop until every high-ranking official at VT resigns.

So, the guy kills his ex-gf and a guy who was with her in the dorm. Then goes to the Engineering building 2 hours later (not sure why he went there since he was an English major). How many rounds of ammo did he have to use?

I am afraid of this, too. There is so much second guessing going on. The fact is that if someone wants to do something to hurt people, he will find a way to do it. There are things that officials could have done, but if I am being honest, I think they handled everything the way that I would have.

Firing good people because of the senseless acts of an individula isn't going to help anything.

Yes, that is the sorry state of the media today.

Charles Steager has been a great President of the University since Paul Torgerson steped down in 2000. I have personally met him on several ocassions and he seems to be a very nice guy. He has raised lots of money and seen that new facilities are constructed to raise the image of the university to a top 25 research institute in the US. It would be shocked if he was forced to step down as a result of this.

The police chief is new...when I was there it was always a female.

They really need to get over the fact as to "why" the school was not put on lockdown after the first shooting. No matter what the reason is for, it isn't going to change the fact of what happened. There is no way anyone could have predicted this kid would attack 50+ people after shooting 2 people.

But I'm just sick and tired of every single clip I see on TV someone is like "and why didn't they lockdown after the first shooting?" and someone VT officials always says the same thing - that they thought the shooter was no longer around. I mean how "official" do they have to make it that they think he's not around? Do they have to have a body in custody? Or just do a sweep of the area and not find the described shooter? I'm guessing they did the 2nd so they assumed he was gone.

Yes it sucks big time, but in ANY tragedy like this, there is always going to be the "what if" game being played afterwards and there is ALWAYS going to be something better that could have been done.

I really wish they would just stop bringing up this whole area of the case.

I am sure the Liberal media with its love of political correctness will somehow make the shooter a "victim". He'll be victim because of school pressure, too rigorous academics, or because he was somehow outcast. It won't be his fault. As usual, it will be the gun's fault or the school's fault or the school president's fault, or maybe even President Bush's fault. After all, in a PC world, the one who commits the crime is never at fault; he or she is just another victim and the rest of the world, the National Rifle Association, anyone who owns a gun, etc. will be at fault at the end of the day. Remember, the PC movement does not believe in one taking responsibility for his or her own actions. Rather, it is my fault and it is your fault because we have all somehow failed society.

I totally agree with you. But thats the problem with the 24 hour news cycle...talking asshatts that pry onto any point they have and continue babling about until a new point comes along. Gee, hindsight is ALWAYS 20/20.

I wish the poster could be considered a nutjob; but that is the sorry state of the PC media these days.

I ****** hate cnn and them. Come on they are interview the guy that kept the door shut...let the ****** guy go home to his family...in a few weeks you can ask the ****** out of him but let the guy ****** go.

That guy did the right thing. Of course its easy to talk about when you arnt in the situation it but if you were in a class rooom there what would you do? Running and hiding seems like the worst choice. The first reaction is to take cover but if yo u had time would you try to block the door? I think i would try to lock/block the door as well. If there was a teacher he should have a key to lock it no? Hide behind the door with a fire extinguisher and try to knock him out before he starts shooting? Heh and where I live I have no doubt that at least two people in my classes have a knife of some sort on them. Two guys waiting on the either side of the door to try and take him down seems like better chances then hiding....In any of these cases it would take quick thinking and a whole lot of balls.

Still let the ****** go guy home..jesus.

Cho was a loner
Cho was a loner and authorities are having a hard time finding information about him, said Harry Hincker, associate vice president for university relations.

Hot Air has a map of the VT campus with the dorms where Cho lived, the dorm of the first shooting, and the second shooting highlighted.

The two dorms are practically next to each other so it would have been very easy for him to go back to his room. Still no explanation as to why he walked all the way across campus to Norris Hall though.

Just imagine your outlook on life after an incident like that. Everything you took for granted before would now become special again. It would probably fade after a while, but the petty crap you used to get upset about would just become...petty.

so did he do the bomb threats to test the response of the school and police and possibly lower their guard for his plan to kill as many as he could?
