but in CA, 90% of guns are banned... so it's not hard to commit a crime with a banned gun...
Good point.
Maybe this is the fresh new direction gun control advocacy needs to get out of its rut - start lobbying for gun bans to be lifted so there will be be less banned guns to commit crime with. Seems like a foolproof plan to me.

In California around 5 to 10% of crimes are committed with banned guns, and for gang and drug crimes it can be 30 to 50%.
Of course there are more crimes committed with "banned" handguns, California gun laws are ridiculous.

You are still a troll. And an idiot

FYI this class 3 registry is stupid. If the government seized all of the guns on the registry, then no more crime would be committed with these weapons.

Only one time in history was a crime committed with a gun on the registry. Your argument is analogous to the voter ID argument.

Other illegal weapons police use include the Full Automatic M4.

Please cite the law that does not allow the police to carry an automatic M4.

If you cannot. You are a liar. Which we already know... but it'll be fun watching you squirm around. Or... you can choose to ignore this post, and prove you're an equally big douche.

Legally speaking, any firearm capable of fully automatic fire is defined by The National Firearms Act of 1934 as a machine gun.

Actually, it goes even further to any part capable of enabling a firearm to fire multiple shots from a single pull of the trigger.

For example, the lightning link.

Our modern definition of an assault rifle wasn't even invented back then yet. Law needs some updating lol.

Pay East Salinas a visit one of these nights, more specifically, Las Casitas, and trust me, you'll never ask this question again. If that doesn't suit your fancy, head on over to Acosta Plaza (5 blocks away, or Kilbreth Ave., 2 block away). That's why.

This should help

I was born & raised in this mess. Dealt with it & survived it for 21 years before I could afford to move. Never looked back.

I was reading wiki, and it seems a lot of local law enforcement agencies have machine guns like the FN P90. Really, what is the need for a gun like this when civilians they deal with don't even have guns like it.

Because of gun nuts who insist on being able to purchase military style rifles which are not that hard for some to turn into fully automatic death machines that spray out white hot lead to smite those unlucky enough to feel their wrath.

*facepalm*

It's odd that your fixation on guns hasn't led to a firmer understanding of what they are, and who needs them for why.

A FN P90 is not a machine gun, and if you honestly think it's inappropriate for law enforcement to have some kind of parity with the heavily armed criminals they have to contend with, then you have bigger issues than a hangup on others owning and using guns.

Only one title II, transferable machine gun has ever been used in the commission of a crime. It was used by a police officer to murder an informant in some kind of crooked drug scheme.

But you make a great argument about registries of guns. They always lead to confiscation.

They'll never make title II weapons totally illegal though, there's too much money involved. Politicians can add new weapons to the transferable registry and sell them for 8000% profit to fund their campaigns. People from both sides of the aisle participate in this type of fundraising. Look at the number of transferable machine guns in the registry in 1986, 1995, 2001, 2005, 2010 and today. Amazing how the number keeps going up despite the registry being "closed" isn't it?

Also, do you think the kind of people that spend $250,000 for an M249 don't have the political clout to keep them legal?

I think of the BAR or the STG/MP-44 as the first assault rifles since the Tommy Gun is technically a submachine gun since it doesnt use a rifle caliber bullet.

My vote goes to the Sturmgewehr, which I believe actually coined the name (storm rifle), as the BAR was more of a mobile light machine gun, but too heavy to be a true assault rifle imho. Those would certainly be the earliest in memory though.

Why do they need machine guns? Well, if you believe Alex Jones and Conpiracy Theory it is because the government is planning to implement Martial Law, take away our guns, and put millions of us in FEMA camps sometime this Fall. If you believe stoners, it is because they are militarizing our police in order to continue to fight the pathetically failed War on Drugs. If you ask me, it is because they have a huge surplus of budget money due to the War on Drugs and they need to waste it on something....the same reason they recently bought 4 bullets for every man, woman, and child in this country.

If you want to know why this country is close to bankruptcy, look no further than this kind of crap.

Look at it this way, if I could afford a fully automatic rifle, I'd buy one. If I owned a fully automatic rifle and I wanted to kill a lot of people, I'd leave it at home and take my semi automatic rifle.

p90 would have been useless in that firefight.

a single officer with a single large caliber rifle would have ended that in short order. in fact, as i recall, that's what they ended up doing, raiding a local gunshop for an appropriate rifle.

actually the 5.7x28mm round was designed specifically with bodyarmor in mind.

Yes, but soft body armor and only with certain ammo. A standard 5.56 round is much more affective, cheaper, and widely available. The PS90's advantage is capacity and low recoil in a very very compact package.

I once dated a girl who's dad was the sheriff of the county. We went out shooting one time and he brought out an automatic UZI. He said they had incase they had to enter a school or something with a shooter.

Why an UZI though I have no idea. I would have definitely went with an MP5 or UMP45.
