Nintendo 64 was $249 @ launch, however compared to its competition it was the "PS3" of its day.

Given the hardware in the Wii, there is very little reason for Nintendo to charge more than they did for GC, which was indeed $199. They'll easily recoup losses, if any, with software sales.

Nintendo 64 was $199. I bought one on launch day.
My kids now play it. It was a great system.

My local stores must have collectively price gouged. No matter, I never got one until they came down to $149 anyways. Of course there really wasn't much of an internet for us to spaz out over price rumors back then...

Nope, definitely just the system. But who knows, I'm just remembering prices I saw advertised in flyers and in store before the launch, I was 11-12 back then and could in no way afford it yet on my own. So I never got it at launch nor would my parents have.

Games such as Turok would also go for $75...

I got the N64 for my 32nd birthday.
