Ok...I thought I've been listening to DMB's new single for a while now - "I Did It" - and I just found out that the song I've been hearing it is something entirely different. It sounded a lot like Dave, was acoustic; I figured it was them.

Just thought I'd share. All the versions of the song on Napster are f*cked; they're completely different.

Hehe, I did that one time too. I downloaded a "Phish" cover of gin and juice. I wasn't a very big phish fan when I first downloaded it so I didn't know what they sounded like, but almost a year later I found out it wasn't them. Don't you ever wonder who is out there just guessing the names of the bands? I also downloaded that song "My Shirona"(or however you spell it) one time cause it said it was by the Ramones, so I figured they just did a crazy punk version of the song. Nope it was the original artist. My Shirona sounds absolutely nothing like the Ramones which makes me wonder whether it was a joke or a seriously misguided individual that put their name on that song.

The lady's name you're referring to is Carrie Akre, former singer of Goodness. She's actually pretty good.

The "I Did It" I had sounded kinda like Thom Yorke...

That has happened to me a lot, most recently with the DMB song. I could tell right away... it sounded very little like Dave. It's lame that people do this, because the song will propagate through as more people download it, and then it becomes difficult to find the few people that actually do have the song.

I remember hearing a while back of a group of people who try to sabotage Napster and its users by doing this. They purposefully rename songs to different things to annoy people and try to keep them from downloading the true song. Wish I could find the article I read that mentioned them--it was a real thing. Obviously people with too much time on their hands.

Thanks for those links... I knew I had read that somewhere, and it was indeed the "stopnapster" group I had read about. Apparently their name for this technique is called "Napster Bombs". Too bad all their efforts amount to scarcely more than an annoyance!
