WTH happened to Kevin Smith?!?

How did he go from making Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back to making Jersey Girl?

I can understand him wanting to do something different after the "Clerks"-based series of films, but I just can't respect another mundane romance movie. To make it worse, both Affleck and JLo are in it. (I understand she dies right away, though, so that's at least something good.)

he just wanted to get this one out of his system. more of a test for himself. he wanted to see if he could make a 'pg-13 movie' and to see how it does. since he just expierenced fatherhood not too long ago, im not surprised he went this route. at first, i wasnt too excited to watch it, but reviews have generally been good for the movie, so ill check it out when it comes out.

I don't know I think he is doing what he needs to do. His movies have not really been mainstream, so he is just trying to make some movie that would appeal to a larger audience. No harm in that. Not to mention he is buddies with Ben Affleck, so that is really nothing suprising.

I think some people just want to hate on it just to do so.

I know he wrote at least one of the Superman screenplays that were being floated around. And I think I also heard that he want's to/is going to direct a movie based on the Green Hornet tv show from the 60's.

Well it was kinda cancelled before it even first aired.


He came and spoke at my school a long time ago and played the cartoons before they came out, even said they were dead before they hit the TV.

Also I will go and pay money to see ANY movie done by Kevin Smith, including this one.

Hey, I'm all for different. That's why I don't understand Jersey Girl, there's nothing "different" about it. KS has been involved in a few good non-Clerks projects (Good Will Hunting, anyone?) that were unconventional but still successfull. I hope Jersey Girl turns out to be more than just cookie-cutter romance, but nothing I've heard or seen about it so far makes me think so.

Yeah, he said he would make the movie but that MJ wouldn't like what he came up with.

Kevin Smith made exactly one good movie. The rest were a series of lame followups each redeemed by a couple of funny moments. Pile Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Dogma and Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back together and there was not enough comedy to match Clerks. He's the movies version of Joseph Heller, churning out junk hoping to match his one masterpiece.
