It's an OK car. Sure it wouldn't be that good for long-distance driving, but it entirely meant for urban-driving. Safety isn't really a concern, since speds in cities are generally low (and to my knowledge, Smart does have the standard safety-features). Basically that car is for getting around in cities. And for that, it's more or less perfect. Good fuel-economy, small size, easy to park, low emissions, more than enough performance for it's intended task, enough space for two adults and groceries (for example) and affordable price. It's a perfect example how you don't need 1.5 tons of metal and huge V6 just to haul your ass around the city at 40km/h.
