TV pretty much sucks all around, imo. I get tired of seeing the commercials at the bottom of the screen for other shows during the show I'm already trying to watch.

As for HD content sucking in particular, I think it's a matter of there being very little actual HD content to broadcast. For example, I watched Bladerunner yesterday on an HD channel. Looked OK, but it sure wasn't HD.

Maybe in a couple years when more HD content is available, there will be a better selection.

Of course, when there is more HD out there, then the spongeheads will have to stop bragging about how they are in HD all the time (you hear me local stations??) like it was their choice to bring it when it was really a government mandate.

Isn't the government mandate just to go from analog to digital broadcasts, which could even mean just broadcasting in ED (480p, which is not HD) rather than HD (720, 1080).

It's an 11 part mini-series. Don't miss it.

You just now got HD. The programming is everywhere. you'll soon find yourself watching more HD than SD.

Remember when the discovery channel had REALLY good shows? That's what you get on DiscoveryHD.

Planet earth looks great.

Will you please inform me of when that is being shown?

It's on a lot. I think the official name is Sunrise Earth and it is nothing more than a bunch of cameras set up in a wilderness area showing the sunrise and what the various critters are up to at that time. The high def pictures are stunning and it is really nice if you are into nature stuff.

If you get National Geographic HD, they had a great series start yesterday, Galapagos. Some incredible footage that just left me with my jaw dropped. One scene with about a hundred loonies diving in to the ocean was just OMG!

I have Comcast and get get the following HD channels:

CBS, ABC, NBC, FOX, 1 local PBS, Premiums (HBO, SHowtime, Skinamax) that I don't subscribe to, MHD, INHD (1 & 2), ESPN, ESPN2, TNT, A&E, NG, Universal, Discovery, Versus.

ESPN's are nice, along with NG/Discover (almost the same channel if based off of programming). Can't wait to watch the Tour de France on Versus this year in HD.

Welcome to HD, makes you really happy your paying out the ass for your new HD tv, and to have limited HD channels, and then you though SD picture suck.......WHOA does it super suck big time 100 fold on a hd set. Its like the picture was watchable on a regular tv, but on a HD set what was ok to watch is pure murder on the eyes, and looks as though most of it is being drawn in water colors, and they cant get the focus right.

You buy a HD widescreen because you sick of the black bars, and now you got more black bars on your shows and movies then ever before. I personally gave up with hd and they can pound it up their asses with sunshine till they get it right before I get it again. The ONLY set I have that made SD and HD look good on is my CRT HD Phillips 30" tv I got as a refurb for $400 shipped. Anything on my LCD HD set looked like pure crap because it upscaled it all. The phillips doesnt upscale it all, so SD and HD had a ballance and I kept the set, sold the LCD tv right away after buying it, was not worth keeping after I ditched all my HD content. Even my Toshiba 65" CRT HD set before it broke, HD look stunning, but the other 99% of the channels I had looked like utter crap.

So I feel your pain OP, I was so happy to go HD and when I got it was a total let down and waste of money.

You're not supposed to be memorized by the colors, you're supposed to be mesmerized by the colors. Maybe that's the problem.

good catch!
micheals PLEASE tell me why tv sucks? You have never watched a movie? (same thing...)

1.It's just an opinion
2.I am talking tv in general, I am sick of it. Just dvds and games for me. I would be perfectly fine with never watching tv again. If it wasn't for my wife and kids I wouldn't have tv service.

TV does suck. All those channels and nothing good on. The movie channels like Showtime just play the same old crappy movies over and over. the only decent channels any more are stuff like the History Channel.

I must have different tastes because i love Discovery HD

That being said, Blu-Ray looks noticably better in HD than anything the cable can provide...

There was a 32" 4:3 CRT HDTV on Craigslist for $200 and I passed it up because it was too heavy-- 200lbs+.

Planet earth looks great.

It's on On Demand now, at least part one is, seasonal forests. Too bad it's SD. I'll be re-watching it in HD when they air it.

Surprised no one asked mr. tv sucks what movies he likes. Most likely a bunch of garbage. Probably went to see the new tim allen movie opening night or something.

I was hoping this thread would be about the ridiculously pixelated CBS coverage of the NCAA tournament. Not sure why it's so pixelated. Never seen HDTV look that bad. It looks worse than SD.

Well it is not quite a waste of money, but it is barely worth the extra 17 bucks or so for an HD DVR and more than basic HD channels.

For me it was the hd, and the stupid extra box charges and PVR charges that added up on the bill at the end of the month. They really know how to stick it to you when you have a family and more then one frekin tv in the home. I had a box in 2 living rooms and 3 bedrooms so I had the extra $7~ per box on 4 extra boxes, ontop of the HD content, ontop of the pvr features, on top of the SD channels, got a $150+ a month bill for Dishnetwork and finally after a few months said screw it.

Been without tv now for almost a year, there is so much tv on the internet, see the thread I made in HD section, you dont need cable anymore, just hook up computers to your tv's or xboxes to the internet and your set.

And that was when they even showed hd. Most of the times I was watching during the first two rounds, there was no hd at all.

In my case I originally just wanted access to digital channels, in the hope I might get some more content vs. analog channles (thanks to the subchannels). I was told a tuner for a non-digital TV would run about $200. I got a great deal on Black Friday for an Insignia 27" 4:3 HDTV for $270 after rebate. My old TV was 19", only have coaxial input, and has had a weird problem for about eight years where faint transparent bars are on the left side of the screen. So for $70, I got a HDTV in addition to the tuner I wanted, better inputs than crappy coaxial, and it looks good at 480/720/1080i. CRTs seem to handle scaling than some of the other technologies, plus they still have the best blacks. The sucker is HEAVY at 100 pounds, but it's not like I move it that much anyway Right now the price has been pushed up to $415. Sure, universal remotes don't work with it, boot-up time is slow, channel changing is slow, and I have to go into the menu to change inputs, as opposed to some TVs where you can do it with one button on the control, but it's a great tradeoff for the cost.

Is it just me, or does DirecTV's HD channel selection suck? I swear Dish has way more hi-def channels than Directv.

To me this is the biggest problem. I really don't have much of an issue with the content. All the damn compression is ruining the HD signals!!

Who is at fault for these bad HD signals? Is it the actual network, the cable/dish provider, or a combination of both?
