Hey all.
Something really weird is going on with my computer. I might as well embarass myself since it's really important anyway. I guess somehow some pornsite I went to automatically downloaded an exe file called "movies.exe". I have Download Accelerator, so I'm able to tell where the file came from. I'm assuming that the file somehow automatically executed since I never EVER double clicked on this file, let alone ever saw it on my desktop.
Anyway, I noticed a few things happened to my computer.
1) My entire porn directory on my D: disappeared.
2) A recent directory I had made and organized in my favorites with some very important links to forum threads and articles from various news sites disappeared too. There was nothing porn related in this directory, just links.
3) The program put some links in my favorites and changed my start page and search function to "ramgo.com"
I redownloaded and executed this file since I was able to tell where it came from, and #3 above occured, but I don't know about #1 and #2,... but let me make one thing clear, this weird stuff doesn't happen to me!
Does anyone know if this is some kind of virus going around? The second I found out my porn was missing, I immediately installed Norton SystemWorks, updated the virus definintions, and did a full system scan. Nothing was infected. I even scanned the file itself and NAV said no virus existed within the file!!! Yahoo Mail didn't detect anything either.
This is the URL of the suspect exe file:
http://www.jambalala.com/movies.exe
Any help would be appreciated. I'm thinking of formatting now since I don't want to take the risk of some kind of backdoor or f-ing spyware being installed on my system.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
By the way, is there any way I can recover the files that mysteriously disappeared? Norton SystemWorks has the Protected Recycle Bin and all w/ the ability to "undelete" files, but I can't undelete files that were deleted before Norton SystemWorks was installed.
I really need that favorites directory back, oh and the porn directory wouldn't hurt either. But, like most people, I get tired of old porn after a few days anyway.
Thanks
