It looks like you don't have any antivirus software. What I would do:

1) enable the Windows Firewall if it is not already enabled. You can do that by going into Control Panel > Security Center.

2) enable Data Execution Prevention like shown in this pic.

3) install and update AOL Kaspersky (a top-notch free antivirus program, don't let the "AOL" part scare you). During installation, skip the optional security toolbar by unchecking the checkbox for it. You can save the installation file onto a CD-R or move it across the network to your system. Its icon in the System Tray is a green safe.

If Kaspersky can't update, post back with that info.

4) After updating, it's probably already going to be detecting junk. Don't get flustered. Right-click the green safe icon in the System Tray and choose Settings. Go through all the Settings panels and max out the detections to HIGH.

5) Reboot the system into Safe Mode (to reach Safe Mode, restart the computer, and begin tapping the F8 key on the keyboard when you know the first WinXP boot screen is about to show, the screen with the scrolling bar). In Safe Mode, click Start > All Programs, start up Active Virus Shield from there, and run a full Scan My Computer while you're still in Safe Mode.

6) after that, while in Safe Mode, run this command by using the Start > Run prompt: netsh winsock reset

7) Reboot into normal mode and see if you can reach the Internet. If you can, go to http://www.elitekiller.com/malware.htm and follow the instructions. If you can't, then follow those instructions by ferrying the necessary stuff over to the infected PC on a CD or a USB drive or something.



This isn't the only way to tackle the malware, but that's my contribution if you want to have a go at it. If you want suggestions on preventing it from happening again, then in addition to the antivirus software, DEP and firewall, also begin using a Limited user account for your daily usage of the computer, and only log on as an Administrator when you really need Admin powers for something.
