I downloaded the WW bios for the Abit KT7 (non raid) and just to let you guys know that it made my system very unstable. I flashed it to the earlier version WT and it seems to be fine so far.

WT bios seems unstable to, what would you guys recommend? going back to the UL bios where I had no stability problems?

I got the WZ BIOS and had to down my DRAM timing from Turbo to Fast because it wouldn't post.

I've been running the ul103b1 for over a month with 2 IBM 20GB doing RAID 0 and haven't had a single hic-up. My lowly 800 T-Bird is OC'd to 927@1.75v core.

I have the UL bios with a Tbird 900@1100 with the bios settings absolutely tweeked, CAS2 etc. Two Maxtor 30GB 7200 in raid 0. Absolutely stable and fast. My USB scanner even works! I'm not going anywhere near the W series.

there is a beta wz bios. Also I read on apus hardware that the turbo doesn't mean it is faster than fast! That wz bios works for me.

I haven't had any instability problems since upgrading from UL to WW, but I did see a noticeable performance drop. Now I can't decide whether to go back or go forward and try the WZ....

Well, I tried the WZ bios, then end result, faster then the WW and a little more stable but still unstable to by likings. So just flashed back to the UL bios.

I've only got PC-100 ram. I bought two sticks of Mosel Vitelic pc-133 ram from John, and I should get it soon, so I'll let you know then.

WZ corrected some incorrected timings in WW. So Turbo now really "Turbo." In WW, I didn't matter if you set it to Fast or Turbo, it was basically the same as fast. Since the timings are fixed, some people who thought their memory was running at "Turbo" was really running at Fast and can't handle the new faster settings of "Turbo."

Also, any BIOS over UL + the KT7 RAID will not boot using SCSI devices.

I had PC-133 that I had to run at 100 (Host CLK) under UL. With WZ I was able to run it at 133 (HCLK+PCICLK) which did a lot to increase the memory bandwidth.......Hence my recommendation. I normally don't recommend upgrading the BIOS unless there is a decent payoff. For me the WZ paid off well.

I am running Memman Mosel 133 at 133(HCLK+PCICLK) CAS 2 and the UL bios with no stability problems whatsoever. Even my USB seems to behaving itself. If it aint broke... and I've also read, and proven with benchmarks, that "normal" is actually the fastest and most stable of the memory settings, not "fast" or "turbo".

I went back and checked my saved BIOS's and found only WT and WZ. So I guess my board came with WT and not UL. It appears that both UL and WZ are decent KT7 BIOS's, I have yet to see anyone speak in favor of the others.

WZ is nice and stable, plus gives high memory scores, but beware, if you do not have a fan on header 1 it will not post, because of the new fan protection feature.I have versions of the WZ that have either DURON/THUNDERBIRD/ATHLON logos, if anyone wants them mail me.

Hello,
I was wondering if you know, If any of these bios upgrades would help with the USB ports? I have a USB DSL modem and If I leave my computer on for a long time and go into the internet, After surfing for a while, My internet would freeze and the whole computer would freeze and I have to power down the pc. I thought it might have to do something with the USB, Would anyone happen to know if a BIOS update would help this problem? BTW, Where can I get the WZ BIOS Update? I also have a ? under my Device manager on a PCI Bridge and I have no idea how to install the drivers for that, To get rid of it. Does anyone have any idea?? Thanks in advance.

Tried the WZ for about a week in Win2K and noticed a whole lot of instability, so going back the Official WW from Abit.

You know if you set the voltage to 1.80 it will give you 1.85. Well I wounder if the instablity was caused cus the new bios didn't have this problem, and I had left the voltage to 1.80. And maybe there wasn't a .05volts error with the new bios so my overclocked duron was running at 1.80 volts instead of 1.85.

Good luck understanding this message.

jsbush, not only did I understand your message (scary, I know) but I would like to know if your readout voltage vs your set voltage does change when you go to the WZ bios. You may be on to something here.

I put the WW bios on a couple days ago and I still have a difference between what I set the core voltage for and what the bios shows for voltage. I also took a performance hit.
