Everyone said how much they hated skeumorphism. I hope y'all like what you asked for, because it looks like they *really* went the flat route.

Digging the flatness, I must say.

Whereas I'm shuddering at it.

The opposite of skeumorphism doesn't need to be flat. Depth is not the same thing as making your book application look like a bookshelf.

I completely agree. I'm a UI/UX Designer and I've had this conversation many times recently. People don't seem to get that you can have something called depth while being neither too flat, nor too skeumorphic.

This was already available on 3rd party weather apps. Well, at least the lightning part.

Weather apps are a dime a dozen, and very few are actually good. This doesn't surprise me in the least.

I am actually really liking the new iOS look. Reminds me a lot of some Samsung phones though. I have no idea what AirDrop is but they keep talking about it on Engadget's LiveBlog. I do wish they weren't sitting in BFE on the side though... You'd think they would get a middle seat to take better pictures.

The one that comes stock with my Android phone, Motorola RAZR HD, is completely animated, and it's actually quite good, albeit not particularly full featured.

The weather app is part of a widget on the home screen. The widget itself is animated. It updates once with animation when you go to the home screen, and if you click on the widget you then get taken to the animated weather app which is continuously animated.

These types of apps are really quite simple in the greater scheme of things though, which is probably part of the reason why iOS was looking a little stagnant to some people.

Ermagerd. Ermagerd ermagerd ermagerd. iOS7 looks AMAZEBALLS.

Those icons are stunning, stunning.

I think the "flat" debate has to be informed by the fact that there is going to be visible layering and translucency going on in iOS7. It's a lot easier to perceive and understand layers stacked on top of each other when those layers are, themselves, mostly flat.

I was pretty sure they weren't going to go full-on squared-off edges on the icons. Anybody remember the RoundRects story? They were too important to Steve Jobs for Apple to just ditch them now.

I think the icons are kind of ugly, but overall i LOVE the new iOS look. i was on the fence about switching to android because i was bored with iOS, but this will keep me on the platform.

iOS integration with the touch screens in cars? I didn't see Audi on the grid I saw, so I might be buying a new car soon. >_>

I'd like to see a demo video, but yeah, overall, I'm diggin' the new flat look.

I also liked the shadowed reflective look of previous iOS versions, but some icons were going really overboard with this, so it's nice to see this getting pulled back to the basics.

I also am happy they didn't go whole hog bland square Metro.

The new iOS is nice balance of minimalism vs. respect for the visual history of iOS.

---

However, that's just based off a few pictures. I'll have to see what it looks like in real life before final judgement.

Thank goodness, hopefully it's deep enough, the default UX in most cars is just trash.

Airdrop is dead simple file transfer between iOS devices that are on the same wifi network.

Wowsers. iOS 7 supports both my iPad 2 and iPhone 4. iOS 6 is slow enough as it is on the iPhone 4, but I think I'll chance the iOS 7 upgrade anyway, because it's my wife's phone and she finds the OS speed fine.

It's clear we have very different expectations from our devices in terms of overall speed.

Considering iOS7 supports true multi-tasking, it's going to be hell on single core devices.

I wonder if it will work between iOS and OS X devices, or if that is iOS 8.

Also, hope that they will de-couple built-in app updates from OS updates. And no mention of changing default apps.

My guess is they'll deactivate several features on the iPad 2 and iPhone 4.

Still, I won't be the first to upgrade. I'll wait a while to see initial impressions from other users of the iPhone 4 and iPad 2.
