I like the look... the top buttons look great, though they don't adjust with screen size like the old setup... the news is a vast improvement over the previous, good work.

I really love the new design, but one thing is missing: Site news where Anand usually posts his personal news. I seem not able to find anywhere on new anandtech's main site.

I too pointed this out in the OT thread.

Can't connect to "www.anandtech.com" at 4:00 AM here on the west coast. Did the site go down?

Now 08:00 eastern seaboard with no site. Bummer. I wonder if Pittsburgh is being hammered by the snow storm, too. I hope they're not having too hard a time of it out there.

Zuni,
looks great, very happy to see that the news are on the front page again

one crit though, the font for the headlines, it would be great to have them bigger, or bolder, or different color so that they work better when you just glance over the page in search for an interesting headline

I like to have several smaller ones cascaded. Now I have to scroll left and right, or make my browser window so big that it wastes all my screen space.

Just my opinion... otherwise, i like it.

yep...too wide...nice color scheme....too much wasted space.

Definately an improvement IMO.

Good job Zuni.

Though, I still don't think it's as good as the initial layout you had back in...was that 97 or 98, something like that anyways...?
When you first moved to www.anandtech.com anyways

Why cant you make the width of the page dynamic so that it fits exactly to the window? Keep the left and right bars a fixed width and have the middle be able to stretch to any size.

I'm one of Zuni's sore points around here but I still like it. Get over that need for low res of 800x600 and the medium res of 1024x768 then you'll see the news and such fits on your screen better.

Guys over 90% of our readers are 1024 plus if not more. Scaling sites always have issues with rendering content in a properly formatted manner, and it creates problems for layout and different resolutions. We wanted a fixed width base so content could be laid out properly and look the same regardless of browser or desktop. For those that open partial windows, sorry you'll have top open it to its fullest extent which seems pretty simple and easy to me . The new site is miles ahead of the old design is asthetics and has a much much better navigation format and has a ton of new features that far outweigh the inconvenience of having to run a browser at full screen

My 2 cents

I like it (of course, it will take "getting used to").

AT is similar to the old page but "cleaner". The old page was fine and it hasn't been "messed with" too much - to see a new "disaster" visit Tom's Hardware (they WERE successful originally but decided to "mess with success" . . . now it's just "cluttered")

I have to say that its hard to beat the simplicity of sites like Arstechnica. But if people are going to insist on having all the links on the home page then the current version is a good all-around compromise. Like Zuni said, move up to 1024x768 for best results. Its hard to go back to 800x600 let alone 1024x768 once you get used to 1280 and up.

Layout is nice, adding rollovers to the categories at the top (like on the left) would be cool...

The fixed res. is annoying though. Can't view it in a smaller window without scrolling unless you're running 1600x1200. Maybe 90% of the people run 1024+ but I'm sure a good percentage also like to view more than one web page at a time. Oh well, just my opinion.

No one is questioning the simplicity of expanding the browser window to the extent of the Anandtech page. Yes, that's very simple. I'm just saying that I don't like having to do that. I didn't have to on the old site, and don't like having to do it now. That's all. The design of the site is great, I think. I got a wide screen monitor because I like to have multiple windows open and tiled on top of each other. With the new site, I have to scroll side to side. It's annoying, that's all. But it's your site and you can do what you want with it.

BTW, i'm using a 22" Apple Cinema Display at 1600x1024, so the problem isn't that i'm running in too low of a resolution...
