Did this a LONG time ago (over a year, at least... I can't remember)...

You can't get a deal much better than this... free color laser with tons of features and free black ink for life... as long as I print over 1500 pages a month, which is no problem

Fixed Link... It's for a Xerox Phaser 860 (Solid Ink Printing Technology)

Program Overview

In our application you estimate the number of pages per
month you?ll print on the FreeColorPrinter. Estimate
carefully - if you are accepted this becomes your
monthly print commitment. The application takes only
five minutes to fill out and it is completely risk-free.
You can opt-out of the process at any time!
Apply Now For Your FreeColorPrinter

Once accepted into the Xerox FreeColorPrinters program
you?ll soon receive the printer. It?s easy to set up and
we even pay the shipping costs! You?ll be producing
fabulous looking, professional documents in no time.

Members of Xerox FreeColorPrinters agree to:

Purchase their ink & maintenance supplies exclusively
from FreeColorPrinters.com
Send in a monthly report which is generated by the
printer.

That?s it! And remember the program itself is risk-free
because you may opt-out at any time! There's no reason
to wait!

Basically you end up buying all your supplies from this company. Probably worth it if you print in high volumes. Print cartridges could cost an arm and a leg though. :frown:

i've used this printer for 14 months now. it is a legitimate GREAT deal, especially if you have a lot of black and white to print.

It's for a Xerox Phaser 860 (color laser printer)

It's actually not a laser printer, it uses wax and it's wax transfer. it's nice because you never make a mess changing toner, the "ink" comes as wax blocks.

let me answer this way, The only thing your required to buy is Ink.

I've printed over 40,000 pages in 13 months and i've only spent $2400.00 on ink with them.

can you think of anywhere else that you can get that done cheaper?

Free black ink... color is rather expensive... but I don't print in color that often.

How do you figure color is expensive?? i print about 80 percent of my pages w/ some color and you can see the total amounts i've spent. there is no where, no printer anywhere where i can print those volumes for less money.

also, i've checked the xerox ink prices from other places and none of them are significantly less that what freecolorprinters.com charges me.

they have a 2500 / month minimum. anything less than that they won't even send you one.

so if your only printing 1000 / month all black and white, you'll pay for your first shipment of ink (i think you have to order color ink to get black ink) and you'll pay 70/month for not meeting minimums.

If we use PlatinumGold's figures then $2400/40000 x 1000 = $60 for 1000 copies. That is .06 cent a copy (not including paper) which is relativly cheap.

Any secrets to getting approved? I applied a while back, maybe a year and got nada!!! This printer wuld really help in getting my meager business off its feet and allow me to expand much quicker ( I design brochures and newsletters as well as web design). Printing in house would be such a great thing to ofer my clients...and means more money in my pocket.

Any special things I need to put down???

say you will print at least 3000 pages per month w/ about 40% being color. that should be sufficient.

What's the benefit to Xerox with this deal? Does it print a Xerox logo on every page or something?

And what's the deal with the wax someone mentioned ... is this not a regular laser printer?

not a laser printer at all. laser printer work w/ drums and toners. this one is a melt wax, thermal transfer printer. ur letters come out a bit raised. some people find that annoying for graphics tho it's great cause it gives the graphics a sheen.

also it's great for printing business cards, you get raised lettering and everything.

I take it that this is only for those who need to print 2500 pages a month? I take it theres no way to make this a hot deal for "regular" computer users?

Cool, I did about 2600 with 80% being color. I should be able to do the 2600 easyily, hopefully they don't hold you to the color amount. I coul just print my company logo on everything I print if so.

I got my 860 for 2150 pages, with 60% being color. They don't hold you on the amount of color as after 160,000 pages in 8 months of pure black & white I never got any note or warning from them. Really free on the ink cost, the only cost that you need to factor in is the Maintenance Kit, which is $200 for 40,000 pages. Thus in 8 months my printing cost is 0.5c / page, not including paper. The printer itself is ultra-reliable, much better than my HP 4500DN color laser at work.

This 860 is my third from the program, after I got 2 of the previous offering, the 850.

That has to be the dumbest question I have ever heard. Did u really just post this?

Anyway, it is a great deal, had one for about 5 mos now. Supposed to do around 32000 pages per month, but did like 6500 last month.

They changed the way they ask for the reports each month, so they dont even see the color/black and white breakdown.

Great deal for those printintg more then 2000 a month or so. Every month under I think they charge you $100

I think its an interesting idea...

BTW, can somebody provide some idea about how good are color photos from these? Since the print is slightly raised I wonder how it might look?

I am thinking of using it for color prints from my digital camera. What say?
