Be prepared! That is a big and heavy printer. It will be inside a even bigger box. Excellent packaging but very very heavy.

I have the 850 two years ago and 12 months later I will be free from their printing commitment and the printer is mine.

Yep i seen, my ship weight says it is 145lbs! i am guesing it is on a pallet or something because on the site it says the printer weighs 80lbs and the extra tray weighs 20lbs so that leaves 45lbs which is about what a pallet weighs!

sleeper5555 et al.,

All of the info you want can be found on the Xerox web site. The HD on laser printers generally hold extra fonts and/or form templates so you only have to send the data to create a filled-in form.

Dammit guys, everyone is confusing the issue! I read one thing, then someone else says "no that isn't right!" then someone else says it is! I tried reading all these damned posts, but kept getting confused as people were contridicting each other at every turn.

Here is what I want to know... say my office prints 2500 sheets of mostly black and white reports (5% color graphs MAX.) and around 200-300 full color pages per month (large graphs, photos, etc.). How much would we be out other than the $200 for the 40k maintenance kit plus periodical shipping cost for black refills? I know some of you said you can't just get a single order of colors refills in the beginning and just order black ones afterwards. So does mean I'm stuck buying color refills every few months if we don't print as much color? Does this allowance differ depending on what you entered for color usage when you signed up?

Basically, I want to know if my office is going to be out more than say... $500 a year (in black and color refills) if we print the amount I mentioned above.

We use a HP 5000n at the moment and I'd guess we easily spend $500 on toner for just black and white prints. Most of our color work gets outsourced to Kinkos (big money for some 2-500 page jobs!). With this program, I'm thinking I can save my work some money as we will be able to print from the office.

Thanks!

Ok no you do not need to order color every so often just when needed and other than the 40,000 oiler kit the only other thing you need is paper and a cable to connect this to your comps or network! i havent even gotten my printer yet but i just friday i ordered 15 black sticks (the free one's) and they shipped them, shipping was all i paid and it was $5.99 not bad for 15 carts!

Ok, so I could conceiveably pay for only black refills and the maintenance kits with periodical color refills as we use them (one order every 4-6 months or so I'm guessing)? That would be SUPER CHEAP for our office! Especially since we could have a full color printer for our graphs and stuff that are needed for presentations to clients. etc.

Damn, this deal is smoking!

I have had a 850 for exatly two years now. I know this because I just got my two year anniversary discount coupon from them.

Here are a few facts about the program:

1) they have a page counter chip that you must pay for. 45,000 pages for $169.99 or 10,000 Pages for $69.99

2) Black Ink - They will send you a maximum of 5 packs (total 15 sticks) per order and they charge shipping of about $12 for the shipping

3) The color count is counted even if you print a single pixal on the page. They require a monthly update of usage that can be sent via email or fax. If you don't send it in they will charge you a monthly $100 fee. If you are late, they charge the fee!

the black page cost is really cheap and looks like it was offset print. NO Laser can look as good!

The only downside is that it is wax thermal and it is susceptible to heat issues as well as the scraping problem. It has not been an issue for me.

I hope this helps?

Ok it looks like thing have changed from th old 850 to the newer 860 because some of those things you say are not correct (at least not on the 860)

1. the counter chip you refer to is in the mantainance kit and not purchasable seperatly, you buy this chip with the oiler in a kit for 10,000 prints at $119.99 or UP TO 40,000 (it says it can be as little as 18,000 though) prints for $199.99

2. you point on this is correct except my shipping on this was only $5.99 for ground are you paying the extra for 2 day air or next day?

point 3 is also correct except on the 860 or in my case i guess it is faxed only no email!

As for your comment about scraping this was one of the things that is "fixed" on the 860 where on the 850's this was a known issue if you read the Cnet review they explain that this was fixed with a harder wax that takes more heat to melt. but yes if you scrape it hard enough it will "skid"

Also another great thing i found on the site that no one has posted here is that the firdt month your quota does not apply though you still need to fax the usage report. the reason for this i because you are allowed time to receive the printer and get it setup! again NO QUOTA in the first month!

I was approved at 2000 prints was anyone approved at less?

I would be interested in the info on the eprom on the maint kit. It looked to me like the maint kit thing was bogus. I could not find anything on ebay as you referred.

you can reply to robertw477@mail.com

I am approved at 3200 pages per month. From Oct-Nov I did more then 7000, but Nov-Dec I only did like 1500. They didnt carge me the under usage fee as they said my pages for the life of the printer were ok.
Even if u miss out a month or 2 on your quota, but still go over it otherwise, they will take care of you.
Still an awesome deal for those who do a lot of color printing.
