I cannot get mine to work. I'm assuming it is a driver issue because everything seems fine. The drivers installed, the O/S sees the card fine, but I get no sound. What drivers are those of you who have the card working using? I'm running Windows XP Home on a FRESH install to try to solve the problems, and still cannot get it working. Help me!

Turn off both options under the headphone detection tab. It did the same thing to me. It then should work.

Excellent, thank you for the advice.

I got sound working now, but can't get any input through my microphone. I have it hooked up to the proper jack, and I've messed with all the sound options in the console as well as adjusting volume tabs through windows. If you have any more advice to get that to work, you'd be my hero.

Thanks,
Sitruk

Well, the best bet is to make sure you went into the volume adjustments for recording by selecting under the options menu in the volume control and make sure that microphone is selected, etc.

I've done that already. I know it's some sort of driver or card issue, because I hooked my USB soundcard from my Steelseries 5H v2's and just plugged the Mic in. It works just fine for Ventrillo and all other applications, through the USB soundcard, but not the Xtreme.

I've got it rigged to work for now, but I'd really like to be able to plug it straight into the card.

Thanks for your help sir.

It worked like a charm. I found a torrent of this ISO and it was perfect for vista.

FYI - these seem to be going used for $40-$50 shipped in the FS forums here if someone missed out on this deal.

Personally, I'd stay away from this card if I were running Vista. Creative's drivers have been far below acceptable for a company of its stature.

I've installed the latest software from the Creative ISO release and updated to the latest drivers. The main problem I get with this card is static, popping sounds, and a loud crackle when I switch outputting from an analog source to a digital source. The static and popping occurs even during regular browsing, so it's not really avoidable. The sounds also skips for any playback.

There are hundreds, maybe thousands that feel the same about the X-Fi on the Creative Vista forums: Vista Complaints

I've used the same card in Windows XP and thought it did an excellent job. I thought it made my headphones sound amazing in games.

However, I would hold back or even choose another brand of soundcard if I was using Vista. The offerings from HT Omega are excellent, and they can be found on Newegg. I hear they have excellent Vista drivers and those cards even decode Dolby and DTS onboard! (X-Fi does not)

Hope this info helps someone out.

I've been struggling for a few days now trying to get the microphone working. The sound output of the card is great, but without being able to use a mic, the card is useless to me.

If anyone happens to figure out how to get the FlexiJack microphone working, please let me know.

All of you who are having mic input problems... you need to revamp your driver setup.

Creative web drivers are BS, and don't compare to all the junk (and yes, I use that term somewhat negatively... but) that comes with the retail CD. To get the flexijack working (thus being able to use a mic) you need the retail driver ISO. If you google Creative ISO downloads, youll find 2-3 sites that host the files for x-fi.

After you find the iso, google x-fi OEM modified support.cab. This is just like the geforce laptop card situation, where the drivers work perfectly, they are just locked out due to hardware codes. So, you drop the modded support.cab into the retail iso folder, and install from there. Then you will get this fancy control panel that handles the flexijack, and several other features that were previously inaccessible.

Sorry for the long paragraphs with no links, if anyone has trouble finding them, ill check back later this evening and drop all the links in

Thanks for the input. I don't think debugging this really belongs in this thread, so I've started a new one to try to get this resolved @ OEM X-Fi XtremeMusic SB0670 + Microphone Not Working.

How does this compare to the X-fi Xtreme Gamer? I ordered that about a week ago for $55 AR, and it is working nicely, but...

From what I heard, the XtremeGamer uses lower quality parts vs the ExtremeMusic. However, both parts use the terrible Jamicon caps that have been known to leak or sound like crap after a while...

As for the deal, it's $51.98 now with free shipping. Too bad I already have two of these X-Fis and spent about the same amount...

I tired out the XFI line at QuakeCon 2005. The X-Fi CMSS-3D (delivers an amazingly realistic surround sound experience with headphones) actually impressed me alot! Most of the other features are meh. If you have an Audigy card (like myself) then there is little reason to upgrade. If you are buying a new X-Fi card, then the music version is the one to get. No need to shell out $$$$ on the Fata1ity 64MB verson.

FYI and YMMV I was at Office depot and they had a clearence section with about 6 boxes of X-fi XtremeMusic for $55 up at the front of the store. They had some in other locations in the store with tags showing $70 or something too. I debated gettin one buy my audigy 4 is fine for me atm. I just thought you all might like to know incase you didnt want to wait for shipping and could find this deal close to home.
